About Greyrock:

A great granite peak that stands 7,613' high in the Front Range Mountains northwest of Fort Collins. A stiff, hour hike to the crag makes this a great, remote area for climbers who don't like crowds. Although it's a mostly traditional climbing area, there are numerous bolted slab lines, but watch out for long run-outs on harder climbing. Has more than 125 routes that ascend its granite slabs ranging from 1-4 pitches. Has a great selection of beginner and moderate slab and crack pitches and make this an excellent destination for the backcountry climber. Racks should include lots of small pro, such as RPs, nuts, tri-cams and small, flexible cams; in addition to the normal larger stuff. A set of cams is needed on most multi-pitch lines.
Nearest town or city: Fort Collins
Directions: From I-25 take exit 269 and drive west into Fort Collins on Colorado 14. Turn north on US 287 (North College Avenue) and drive northwest for about 10 miles. Turn west and continue 8.5 miles on CO 14 to a parking area on the south side of the road for Greyrock National Recreation Trail. Cross the river on a footbridge and follow the steep trail (Trail 947) up a dry, rocky canyon, keeping right at the fork. Allow about an hour for the stiff hike to the crag's base. The South Slabs are directly in front of you as you approach withthe Southeast Face to the right and the Northwest Slabs on the opposite side of the rock. While there are many public camping areas along CO 14, climbers can camp in the forest around Greyrock for free.
