About College Rock:

This rock wall is about a 75 yard traverse ranging from 10 to 40 feet in height. Good toproping (bring long webbing sections, minimum 2 30foot webbing and 2 20ft, though 50 foot lengths will get your biners over most edges with the least work.) There are a few places suitable for trad leading. Toprope anchorage is mostly trees, but there are also some solid exposed roots and slingable flakes/boulders as well as cracks for placed gear/pro. The climbs are mostly 5.6 to 5.9 with a couple of 5.10's and one 5.11. I've seen 8 ropes dropped at one time here (all the good climbs). The cliff is in the woods, and doesn't get a lot of direct sunlight. If it's been damp overnight and not especially warm in the morning, expect most cracks to be wet, with subsequent increase in difficulty. There is a small parking area for about 9 cars (w/some parking on the street). CR is also at the head of some popular mountain biking/hiking trails, and so climbers compete with bikers/hikers for parking on the weekends. It's not a huge cliff, and with 8 ropes down it can be packed, but I have seen it empty. There are regulars who frequent CR weekly, but the vibe is generally freindly and folks will share rope/belay with you. The area has been maintained by the Hopkinton Conservation Commision, and there are some benches, a picnic table, some trash cans (in the parking area) and a small roofed sign board with a route map/ratings.

(If you pass Cornell's pub on the right, you've gone too far.) from southboro/north take Rte 85 South, straight thru the lights at Hopkinton center, up the hill and past Hopkinton High (straight thru lights there) College Street will be on the left 2 miles approx, after Cornells Pub. From Upton/west, Rte 135 to 85 in hopkinton ctr, right on 85 (south) toward milford, then as above. from Ashland/east, rte 135 west to hopkinton ctr, left on 85 south, then as above. Turn onto College road, and the parking area is about .2 of a mile down the road on the right, it's not really well marked, there's a sign that reads "no tresspassing after dark". Walk south a short distance along a path to cliffs on left. From Boston/East, take the Mass Pike (or Rte 9) west to 495 south. Get off at exit 20 (Rte. 85 Milford) and turn left off the exit.
