Description:

A clean line up a natural weakness on the left edge of The Black Curtain. Good intro to Black Velvet climbing. Follow a discontinuous crack system for 4 to 12 pitches. The best rock is on the first 4 pitches, then degrades a little for pitch 5 and six. Descent: Rappel the route from pitch 4 or 6, or walk off from a top-out.

4 out of 5 stars nice

Not the warmest climb in the early Spring. It's in the shade, probably nicer in the warmer months.

5 out of 5 stars excellent long pitches

My favorite pitch was the third pitch what a stellar crack and well protected. The Belay after pitch two is obstructed by a fallen scrub oak so be aware.

5 out of 5 stars Refried Brains

One of the last routes on Black Velvet Wall for me, yet I have to say I think it is underated. For the grade, I thought those first four pitches made for a real nice route. I traversed on the 2nd pitch, out right of the corner on a hard move to follow a different line up and right. Sure folks are doing both corners there. 1st and 3rd pitches were quite stellar I thought.

5 out of 5 stars -

Greg Barnes replaced the 4th anchor, and 5th pitch protection bolts, April 2007.
Great route! Fairly sustained for the grade.
