About Windy Peak:
Located on the north side of Windy Canyon, Windy Peak is home to a massive, 1000' tall south facing wall. Although its premiere route (Jubilant Song) was the first major route in Red Rocks, the wall was up until recently home to only five routes, although the potential was there for many more. Recent development has created four new routes for climbers looking for adventure to test their mettle on.
This peak, primarily a winter and early spring destination, is a an excellent choice for those looking to escape the crowds. Although the approach is strenuous, the climbing is excellent and the topout is on a major summit on the Red Rocks escarpment. Don't forget to sign the summit register!
Approach:The general approach hike is the same for all the climbs here. Hike in past the brown rocks onto the scree pile at the base of the Windy peak. Follow the trail on the north side of the wash, then cut across the wash, following the cairns. Head up the hill on the west side of the wash (to the south of the Peak), following the trail. Work your way up this hill, then across the flats, and up and right another hill. Eventually, you will be directly across from Jubilant Song (look for the huge roof!), cut hard right right across the slabs to the base of this climb. Heading north along the tree lined gully will take you to the bases of the other climbs on the wall. Approach time is approximately 90-120 minutes.
Beta/Updates: Do not head up the gully to the north that seems to lead up to the base. It's a tree/boulder filled hole that will probably turn your nice day out into a horrible epic.
