About Main Wall:

The largest section at Shelving Rock, and the first to be developed. Of the 30 or so routes, most are 90 feet high (some with second pitches). The routes are generally mixed (trad and sport), well protected and with fixed anchors. The views over Lake George are outstanding.
Approach: From the parking lot, walk further up the road (maybe 50 feet) and take the herd path on the right. Continue along this trail for 15 minutes, go passed the first cairns (trails to the Big Wall and the Jackass Buttress), and continue along the flat (passing some large boulders) until you get passed a good view of the Big Wall. Resist the temptation to go up too early. There will be a cairn and an obvious path up the talus field on your right. When the trail hits the cliff, walking left will take you to the far right-end of the Main Wall (and the base of Wake and Bake).
Approach Time: 20 minutes
