Rock (Toprope)
G
1
Toprope from a tree at top of chute, to left of stacked boulder. Many large steps means no fall would be very far. Gear not useful or safe due to loose rock.

Description:
Starts right of Devil in the White House, just left of a large gully. Steaming Piles is a broken slope with a rich mix of the layered rock of upper Devil to large blocks to solid and difficult faces, offering as much exploring of climbing moves as anywhere at Pilot. Simply getting to the top is simple yet interesting for beginners, and a challenge for the length.

a means to an end
Gear led this as an easy alternative to get to the anchors on Devil. It was a weird windy and occasionally chossy line. The most interesting stuff was near the top where it became quite a bit more vertical and required a couple semi-moves to line up with the anchor for Devil. Grade depends on whether you try to do this or veer off in an easier direction to focus on this line exclusively. Still, I thought it was worth it rather than rap or make the perilous scramble to TR Devil.
It might be intriguing for newbies while the other play on the harder routes in the area.
