Ship Rock
About Ship Rock:
| Only place on Grandfather Mountain where climbing is allowed. Park at Rough Ridge pull out near mile marker 303 on the Parkway and walk south 1/2 mile to trail to the right that leads to the rock. Mostly Trad climbing |
| Approach: | Approach to trail starts just after bridge and road cut, with a small and barely visible trail. Just follow the wall up a decent scramble to the base of Hop, Skip and a Jump. Doable in sandals, but approach-type shoes are recommended |
| Approach Time: | About 10-15 minutes south of Rough Ridge pulloff if you walk the parkway, about 20-30 minutes up the Tanawa Trail from Rough Ridge pulloff |

| Access Issues: | If you come up the Tanawa Trail, DO NOT walk down the "trail" to get to the bottom. Find a rap ring and rap down. The park service has the trail blocked off for a reason. |
