Description:

F.A. Duane Raleigh, John Sanders (1979) Left-most route on S. America -- starts at the very bottom of the formation and winds its way to the top. Classic! 5.9 for most of the way, with a crux 10b mantel. A little runout, but very solid...enjoy! One of the best routes at Quartz and one of the best face pitches you'll do anywhere!

5 out of 5 stars This climb made my day at Quartz

After South Pacific we climbed down to the rap station at the top of Amazon Woman. We rapped using two 60m ropes, climbed back up to the start of South Pacific, swung out to the right onto the route, and top roped this one using one 60m rope. After watching some guy free solo it, we thought what the heck. Anyway I had some trouble with the 1st steep section that my brother cruised by and my brother had some trouble with a large mantling step move which I cruised by. I don't concider myself a 5.10 climber; so, making this climb really psyched me up.

Nervous. Man we worked this route up in our heads. I really dig that kind of crux.
