Crab Eyes
About Crab Eyes:
Most of the routes here and the Lost Dome area were put up by the original OK hardmen --Raleigh, Andrews, and later Russell Hooper, Tony Wilson, Tony Mayse, and Steve The Crazy Hardman Dude. Crab Eyes is THE premier hard crack destination in OK, which says little, but a trip up on of these is great -- full length, hard cracks with devious cruxes. Addtionally, there are some hard aid lines and two hard 12 face routes. Directions-Go to the Sunset Parking lot in the Wichita Mts Wildlife Refuge. Park there and pack enough food and water for the day. Crab Eyes is about 2 mile hike, and the best directions I can give you is to take the trail across the second stream, and take your first trail opportunity to go right and over the little ridge. As soon as you crest it, look southwest, and you should see Crab Eyes, an unmistakeable free standing tower of granite with two boulders perched atop, causing the resemblance to everyone's favorite shellfish. |
