The area is closed to motor vehicles from Dec. 1-March 31 every year to protect winter elk and deer range. It only takes 10 minutes to walk in from the highway, so please do not violate this closure and educate anyone you see driving in there. Also please DO NOT have fires and watch your smokes during the summer and fall season when burning is restricted. Please camp away from the boulders and the main parking areas to lessen the impact on the heavily trafficked zones. Stay on trails, don't cut live vegetation, brush excessive chalk, no tick marks, etc. In addition, there will be active logging in the area this winter during the road closure. The logging will not be in the immediate vicinity of the boulders, but the USFS has asked climbers to stay away from the logging operations. There is an annual trail-building/maintenance and cleanup party every April 1 when the road opens. Thank you for taking care of our valued local areas. |
