About The Whaleback:

Huge rock formation that looks like a giant humpback whale. Tops out at about 60-70 feet. Mostly solid, but as you move to the right of it, it begins to turn to shale. One bolted route on there, but who knows how old or if the bolts are good. Accessible by a main road, and easy to find.
Nearest town or city: Shamokin
Directions: From 81, take exit 116 (minersville) towards shamokin. From 61, take it all the way in to shamokin. Once your in Shamokin, you'll be on Sunbury St. Turn onto Market St. Either way, there is only one turn onto Market St. Follow it through twn all the way to the top of the hill and bear right onto Bear Valley Avenue. After a 1/4 mile out of town, the main road will turn to the left, but keep going straight. this road will eventually tuen to packed dirt. Follow that for less than a mile and you will see the Whaleback on your left. It's huge you can't miss it.
Latitude, Longitude: 40.76384, -76.59548
Access Issues: Free access. There are always atvs and dirtbikes up there and University students go there to study whatever. There are a lot of mountain paties in the area on the weekends, so cops will cruise past the Whaleback sometimes, but if your just climbing and camping it's cool.
