About Right Face:

As you're coming up the mountain and looking at the rocks, there is a large crack that runs up the middle through which the AT technically runs. To the right of that crack is a large boulder for, yes, bouldering and further around that rock there is about a 60 or 70 foot face with lots of nice cracks, hand jams, and overhangs. Bring lots of webbing because there is much to hook in for anchors within the first 40 or 50 feet of the edge. Awesome rappelling and topping. BEWARE: THERE IS A PINION UNDER ONE OF THE OVERHANGS!!! IT IS OLD...DO NOT USE IT!!! There is a bolt on top of the one climb. This one seems sturdy enough for a safety line. The view alone is worth the 3/4 mile hike!!! Awesome view of the Valley and Laurel Lake (a.k.a. Laurel Forge Pond)!
Approach: Heading N. on I-81, get off @ exit 47 (Hanover St. [Carlisle]) & make a right @ the end of the ramp. Heading S. on I-81, get off @ exit 47A & make a right @ the end of the ramp. Stay on this rd (Holly Pike [PA-34]). U'll eventually come 2 a red light & see a Sheetz diagonal 2 u on u'r left (just so u kno u'r headed in the right direction). Keep going STRAIGHT @ the light, & @ the next light. This rd will wind around a little & then ther is a split-off wher 34 bears 2 the right and 94 goes straight; stay to the right! After a few miles, you will see another split-off where 34 goes straight and Green Mountain Road bears right; this time, take Green Mountain Road. You will come to a stop sign at Pine Grove Road; turn right onto Pine Grove Road. You'll be on PG Rd for quite awhile and then you'll see a wooden sign on the left that reads something like, "Now Entering Pine Grove Furnace State Park." Take the dirt road directly to the left of the sign (not the one perpendicular to PG Rd, the next one, that bears to the left is the one you want). The road will go next to Laurel Lake and on the right is a parking area. The trailhead is right across from the parking area. About 2/3 of the way up the trail, there is an optional switchback trail (which is easier, BUT takes longer) to get to the BACK of Pole's Steeple. If you just follow the main path, it's shorter distance, but alittle harder climb (main path brings you to the FRONT of Pole's Steeple)! NOTE: The following approach time is from the parking area to the rocks!
