Cool area. Aforementioned range of ratings might be incorrect so don't quote me. Routes are great - long for the Obed. Same trail head as Tieranny, best for climbing in summer because of shade and easy access to river.Y-12 is a serene north-facing crag on Clear Creek in the Obed river drainage. It is one of the less crowded crags at the Obed, due to the approach and the lack of moderates. The hallmark of Y-12 is "Born on the 4th of July" (5.13a), a stunning and enourmous prow near the entrance to the crag. Great in the summer, and unthinkable in the winter.
TO GET HERE::From Wartburg, follow Hwy. 27 N. After a going down a long hill, take a HARD left to continue going downhill. Follow the curvy road. About two miles after crossing the railroad tracks, look for a brown gov't. sign for the Obed. Turn left onto a small country road. After crossing Lily Bridge, continue up the hill until you reach the overlook parking lot on the left. Start down the overlook trail, but take a climber's trail to the right in less than 100 yards. Follow this beautiful path for about 15 minutes. Keep your eyes peeled for a trail heading down the cliff on the left. Once you reach the base of the cliff, continue right (east) and down, until you reach the prominent buttress featuring Born on the 4th of July. Total apprach time: 25 minutes.
