About Big Rocks bouldering area:

(camhead's descrip)I do not do too much bouldering. However, even I saw a lot of route potential in this area just to the west of Capitol Reef. To access, drive along highway 24, just north of Bicknell. Turn at the airport road, and keep driving until you see boulders... DUH. There are tons of fun routes here, lots of overhands with little pockets and stuff. The only drawback is that this is also kind of a PWT camping area (small town high-schoolers, pickup trucks, Coors, and campfires). It could really be cleaned up a lot. (willstrickland's descrip) I was psyched when I first moved to Loa/Bicknell, thinking this field would yield tons of hard problems...unfortunately the rock is strangely non-conducive to climbing. It's andesite, and there are a handful of good problems, but the locals manage to keep it trashed with dead animal carcasses, empty beer cans, fire pits, etc (what happened to good mormon values?). Remember that Patagonia ad a few years ago with a little tiny kid bouldering and his folks spotting...pic shot from above them? That pic was taken in this boulderfield.
