Description:

Located across the road from the warm up traverse problem, this was one of the first hard problems put up at Smuggler's Notch (hence the name) and seems to be a favorite first point of attack for talented visiting climbers. Look for the trademark prow that overhangs about 60 degrees and is visible from the road just before the hairpin turn. Start on a small set of crimps and pull up to a painful quartz crystal lined pocket. From here either match and dyno up the right side (V?, two ascents, hard) or pull off left to a small sloper and up the arete.(F.A., Bill Patton, '98). ***
