2nd Mountain- Satellite Ranch
About 2nd Mountain- Satellite Ranch:
Fairly good, but small bouldering area with mostly steep problems ranging in dificulty from V0 to V10 with projects outstanding. The majority of the problems range from V4 to V8...
ACCESS ISSUES!!!!! Please carpool if you are going to visit this crag as the parking is on private land. If the gate is open drive through the gate so you can park on public land and if any landowners ask you to leave do it immediately!!!!
To avoid access issues and to get an added aerobic work-out, drive past Second Mountain Road and pull into Rocky Run, the old ATV access trailhead, about 150 yards down the road on the right. It's not marked very well, but lok for the Rocky Run Hunt club, just before the bridge. Keep your speed and music down... the road has a lot of culvert humps and there are several private houses that sit right on the shoulder.
Park in the loop at road's end, without blocking traffic, and hike upstream (in some cases, literally) for about ten-fifteen minutes. The trail will branch to the right and continue forwards. The right branch leads to Second, the road ahead to Dictum. A brisk 35-minute hike will get you to the boulders on top of Second... no traffic, no landowners, no access issues!
|Nearest town or city:||Rawley Springs|
|Directions:||After you pass Rawley Springs Store and the turn-off to Gum Run (Rawley Boulder Wall, Appetizers, Maze, and Aretes) on the left, wind through a long "S" curve, past roadside parking for Blue Hole. Pass an eroded clearing with several trailers and broken down cars on the right, and Second Mountain road will be on the right just beyond this. Take this right, and follow the increasingly steep and rough gravel road to the gates (or see directions above for No Access Issue Parking). Keep your speed down to reduce dust and impact on the road.|
