About Hone Quarry:

With free and fee camping, toproping, bouldering, and leading opportunities, scenic trails, rugged mountains and wandering streams, Hone Quarry's got a little bit of everything. The strand of bouldering gems that stretch from the roadside Goon Rocks to Lover's Leap, as well as the convenient parking and 30-minute access to Hidden Rocks, make this an inviting area to the beginner and intermediate climber, as well as aspiring shredders and bouldering fiends.

Nearest town or city: Briery Branch
Directions: Take the Bridgewater exit from I-81, and proceed W, through the light at the Exxon/Burger King. Country road leads to small town. Pass through Bridgewater College to intersection with a stop light. Turn right at the intersection (Hardee's), and follow Main Street (Rte 42 N) towards Dayton.

Route 257 West will intersect 42 N at the first light. Turn L at this light and follow 257W for several miles, through Montezuma to Otterbein Store.

Turn left at intersection to stay on 257, cross river and continue through sharp curves and hills to reach Briery Branch Store.

Turn right at the store and follow 257 to Hone Quarry. There are two parking areas, one just past Squire's Camp, about a tenth of a mile from the trail head, and another adjacent to the trail's end. The first tends to be wet for most of the year, and is located on a steep, rocky hillside.

Coming from the north, take Rte 33W out of Harrisonburg to reach 613, a mile or two beyond the poultry plants of Hinton (speed changes to 45mph just before intersection). Turn L at the intersection, and follow 613 to reach Otterbein Store, where you will merge into 257 automatically. Continue to Hone Quarry as above.
