About Mountain Lake:

While not known for its high quality or abundant lines there is so worthwhile bouldering to be done at Mountain Lake. Although it is not really the bouldering but more the setting that brings most people to the area. Mountain Lake is a natural Lake that sits on a volcanic fault. This is why the water recedes from time to time. For locals this area is great to check out if time is limited and you want to climb on real rock besides the buildings on campus. Don't come here expecting premium rock climbing, but come here to enjoy a wonderful place and you will no doubt enjoy the boulders.
Nearest town or city: Blacksburg
Directions: Drive through Blacksburg heading west on 460. About 10 miles west of Blacksburg turn right onto 700 North, look for signs to Mountain Lake. Drive around to the backside of the lake and park in a small dirt lot on the left. Walk across the road and duck the fence. If you walk straight in you would come to the boulders. Walk around to the right for easier acess. All listed problems are within a stones throw of the Lake. The Mexicali Blues boulder is first in the woods, and the Lumberjack is first on the Lake.
