About the first cluster at Mount Rogers.:

The first boulder cluster at Mt. Rogers may not be the best name for these boulders since they are not on the mountain, and they are not the first boulders in the park either (the information station boulders are), but they ARE the first cluster of boulders you come to on the trail leading to mt rogers. these boulders have been climbed on for years, and are home to some amazing stone that still has allot of potential to be developed. the T-2 project resides in this cluster, the hooker boulder sits nearby, there is a great top-rope bolted slab that the boy scouts use, and scores of stone waiting to be climbed. climbing here is super exposed since these boulders are above tree line and the views are breath taking in all directions.
Approach: take the trail from the rhododendron gap parking area that goes through the pony gate, and hike up the hill. as you top the hill, you will see the large cluster of exposed boulders to your right. the hooker boulder is smaller in comparison to the highball boulders past it, and it is also closer to you as you hike there.
Approach Time: 25-30min
