About the second cluster at Mount Rogers.:

the second cluster has a huge amount of unclimbed stone. most boulders here are eather huge, and with bad landings (large sharp rock) or small with one move wonders. yet still the area is worth checking out because of the the "lonely boulder" or establishing some thing new on the overhanging pillars at the foot of the hill (but bring lots of spotters and pads!!).
Approach: Walk up the hill on the trail at the Rhododendron Gap parking lot and hike the hill. once at the top, resist the temptation to turn right and follow along the trail torward the far mass or boulders on top of Mount Rogers. as you hike toward the mountain, notice on your left that there are lots of boulders sticking above the trees, and sitting on top of the hill. thats the second cluster. you have to vear off of the trail to reach them, so please take care to respect the plants, and have your group spread out to leave a smaller foot print. explore!!
