To get there from the north, follow State Route 7 southward from Tacoma through Spanaway, then take the right fork onto State Route 507, passing through the small towns of Roy and McKenna. Cross the Nisqually River, then take the first left and follow about 1 mile to the Four Corners intersection. To get to the Four Corners from the south, get on State Route 507 northbound to Yelm, then head east on 507 to Five Corners and continue east to the Four Corners intersection. From Four Corners, head east on Bald Hill Road and follow it several curvy miles to its intersection with Peissner Road SE, just past the fire station.
If you are hiking in, take a left on Peissner Road and follow it just over 2 miles to a gated side road marked #4000. If the gate is closed, park just up and on the left (don't block the gate!) and hike in. Follow this road 1.7 miles to its intersection with road #1000, then follow spur road #1190 on the other side until you reach a mossy parking area/turn-around from where Clearcut Wall is plainly in view. Don't mistake Fossil Wall and Clearcut Wall. Fossil Wall is long, and mossy cliff with several obvious aretes, chimneys and a big roof; Clearcut Wall is a small craggy knoll farther up the road. |
