About Samish Wall-Oyster Dome:
| Probably the biggest sheer rock face in Bellingham region. Best as I recall, it was first climbed back in the 60's and has seen only sporadic use since. A combination of trad/sport climbing will get you to the top of this wall. Routes tend towards the difficult side - easiest is ~5.10 going up to 5.13/.14. This wall may have great potential for development as a climbing area. There are also possibilities of spelunking in the caves located in the talus at the base of the cliff. Watch out for the bat guano! |

| Directions: | Shortest hike: Drive south on I-5 and take Alger exit (240). Drive road to the top of the mountain (this requires some map study). Follow "PNT" trail that leaves parking area near top to either the base or the summit of the wall. (left for base, right up a creek for the top). Chuckanut Drive approach (1 to 1.5 hours): Go south on Chukanut Drive past Larrabee State Park and the Oyster Creek Inn. Past the Oyster Bar Restaurant, park in the small pullout on the right. Trail starts near the north end of the pullout. It is a well maintained and marked trail. Take the Samish Bay Connector trail and follow signs to the Oyster Dome. |
