About Cave Mountain:

That very obvious band of limestone floating in the sky up there above Eagle Rock that you could see for the last five miles coming North on 220 from Franklin. Unfortunately closed (9/08) to climbing development and caving due to to use of the cave by rare bats. Check with NFS/Conservation offices regarding status.
Approach: Accessed from jake's Hill road or by death march from Eagle Rock.
Approach Time: 1-1.5 hrs

Access Issues: Private land surrounds the cliff. Rare bats use the cave as a nursery, so there is no caving and climbing development is temporarily under moratorium. Keep your fingers crossed and hope for a rapid recovery... there is a lot of fine limestone up here, and the views are incredible.
