About Eagle Rock:
Just over 2 miles into the canyon, a huge fin of limestone soars up from the river to your right.
Welcome to Eagle Rock, one of the biggest privately-owned chunks of climber-friendly stone in West Virginia.
Climbers are encouraged to contact the landowner in advance and to offer to pay the measley $8 camping fee for the righteous thrill of climbing this amazing formation. Upside of this is that, after you come down, you just cross the river and pitch camp! Beta is available by email, email@example.com.
|Approach:||Turn off Rte 220 onto Smoke Hole road, and follow for 2.2 miles. Turn sharply right off Smoke Hole Rd into Eagle Rock Campground at obvious giant fin, opposite historic sign and gravesite. Park off the driveway, cross river.|
|Approach Time:||5 minutes|
|Access Issues:||Private land, all the way around the rock. Be responsible enough to pay the family for a campsite or this crag could soon be "Closed to the Public" like so many other fine WV crags.|
|Type of Climbing:||Trad|
|Sun Aspect:||Morning Sun|
