Bastion Peak rears out of the moraine like a jagged dagger, slicing the continent at the Divide. The first four pitches were in the shade and we froze. By the time we finally came around the arete, the sun had too, and we were back in the shade. The climbing on Bastion is strange and blocky, alternating between gently overhanging cracks and chunky chimneys with pitches ranging from 5.6 to 5.9

Descent Options:

Walk along the summit ridge to the second gully. sling a boulder and rap. scramble down loose, horrible death scree, head left, sling a boulder and do a double rope rap. scramble down talus to the valley.

5 out of 5 stars What a day!

A fifteen hour psuedo epic, but what a view from the top! a forrest was burning on the other side of the Divide and we were treated to an otherworldly sunset.
