About Fossil Mtn. Ice Cave:

This is a cave in Fossil Mountain area, west of the Teton's. The caves are entered by climbing into a hole in the side of the mountain where a stream comes gurgling out.
Approach: Take road to Darby Canyon from the highway between Victor and Driggs. The first cave with the stream and waterfall is the wind cave. It connects at some point in its depths to the ice caves, which also have outer access further up the mountains. To the First cave it is about 7 miles round trip from trail head. Another few miles to the ice caves. Pretty easy hike for anyone in half-decent shape. Good family hike. Darby Girls camp is very close, so lots of girls and families. The stream is mostly run-off so is not strong most of the year. Just a small trickle from the cave the rest of the year. Some light spelunking in the wind cave area, full spelunking and ice gear needed for deeper areas
