About Aruba:
OverviewAh... Awesome beaches, great night clubs and night life and HOT babes everywhere plus a single AWESOME CRAG, yep you bet, Grapefield is great and has LOTS of potential. If it wasn´t because no body on the island climbs over 5.9 there will be lots of harder routes! Political and Geographical SituationAruba it self is not a country, is one of the three island (Curazao, Bonaire and Aruba) that belong to the Lower Countries (specifically to the Dutch). If you speak English, Spanish or Dutch you are already setup to come here. Is located merely 15 miles to the north of the Falcón península of Venezuela (on clear days you can see the island from the venezuelan chores and viceversa) and is relatively small. The CragsThere is only one crag in Aruba: Grapefield (also known as the cliffs of the Fontein Coast). This place has a Thailand-like setup... bolted lines on overhanging volcanic rock and coral reefs just by the beach. There are also a couple of places for Bouldering. All the routes and signs have been setup by the CLUB ACTIVE ARUBA which is a local sports organization. If you want to bolt a new line you have to ask them first! They also rent gear. All of the routes have a bolted Name Tag on the base. This tag contains the general info on the route (name, difficulty and FA info). So topos are not that necessary... although are still quite helpfull. |
