About Torre do Meio (Furnas):

Because of the salt spray and for beeing so close to the sea, the bolts may be worn out (oxidated). Be carefull and test them before clipping yourself to those bolts. Use common sense, and if you have any doubts, don't use it. Such a beautifull climbing site, Torre do Meio (middle tower) is famous because of various "caves" in the sea side! You must be carefull 'cause almost all the routes ends over the sea. In most of them you must top rope and before climbing, you must rappel down to the route's starting point (the belayer will stay on the top). There is at least one route that you might lead. The routes are from 5.8 to 5.11a. With some luck, if you pay attention to the sea you might see some whales waving their tails. Take some time to enjoy the place and don't forget to visit the other two hills with climbing routes in the city: "Torre Sul" (south tower) and "Morro do Farol" (lighthouse hill).
Nearest town or city: Torres
Directions: Leaving from Florianópolis or North Brazil, follow the BR-101 road until Torres. From Florianópolis it is about 300km distance. From Porto Alegre, the distance is 200km. Leaving from Porto Alegre, take the free-way (BR-290) until Osorio (100km). Than you can choose between taking the BR-101 or the "estrada do mar" (sea road). There are more 100km until you get to Torres. When you get to the city, find the direction signs to "parque da Guarita". "Torre do Meio" is the biggest hill in the city. When entering the Guarita park it's the hill directly to your left. There should be no mistake in finding it.
