Take the expressway past Escazu and Santa Ana, to Urbanization Rio Oro (on the right hand side of the expressway 3km past Santa Ana). The next town is called Cuidad Colon, and you can use the Cuidad Colon buses to get there. Buses leave from the 'Coca Cola' in San Jose and also stop at the city 'Gymnasium' in Parque Sabana in San Jose. The bus driver will help you if you ask for Urb. Rio Oro.
The entrance at the expressway has a small guardhouse with a yellow gate. Simply tell the guard you are going to climb. Go about 300m along the road entering Rio Oro. You will pass two 'tee' intersections, one to the right and shortly after one to the left. At the first four way intersection (also the first stop sign) turn left. At the next intersection turn right. Follow this road as it curves to the left and after about 300m you will come across a series of vacant lotes on your left followed by a small white house. This is the entrance to the climbing area.
If you cross the vacant lot to the left of the white house you can find small trail toward the left of the lot leading down to a ladder that enters a gap in the rocks, and into the river gorge. Decend that ladder and exit the gap and you have arrived at Rio Oro Arriba. There is also another trail toward the middle of the lot that leads to the largest tree and below that at the edge of the cliff are anchors. You may also use these to enter on rapple.
If you cross the other vacant lot on the right side of the white house (next to the very large house with huge fences) you will find a large tree and several smaller ones bordering the edge of the cliff. Use one (or more) of these to set up a rappel station to enter the gorge and then scramble about 50m right (downstream) and you will be at Rio Oro Abajo. This area can also be accessed by foot from Rio Oro Arriba.
Ubicado en el cañon del rio Oro en la urbanizacion del mismo nombre. Es de facil acseso en automovil. Esta situada de la entrada de Santa Ana 3 Km hacia el oeste. La forma m·s f·cil es accesando por El Residencial RÌo Oro a mano derecha de la autopista. Solamente hay que decirle al guarda que van a escalar. De la entrada hay que ir 200 metros al norte, 100 oeste, y 300 norte hasta llegar a una casa de dos pisos blanca en el costado izquierdo de la calle. Hay lotes baldÌos a ambos lados de esta casa. El lote de la izquierda es para las rutas de RÌo Oro arriba y dos lotes a la derecha nos lleva a RÌo Oro Abajo. El bus a Ciudad ColÛn, que se toma al costado norte de la Coca Cola, avis·ndole al chofer lo deja en la entrada del Residencial.
