About Bosque de Rocas de Huayllay:

The Bosque de Rocas (or "Stone Forest") near the village of Huayllay is a beautiful geological formation containing thousands of rock pillars spread over several kilometers. Just wandering through the mazelike formation is amazing.

The pillars average 20m in height and the quality of the rock is simply excellent. Bouldering possibilities abound (mostly flat landings on grass), toproping is possible in many places, leadable routes are sparse as there has been little route development. Be prepared to be creative and adventurous.

Get to know the people who live near where you camp, they will help you protect your gear and know a lot about the area. There are hot springs to bathe at on the road to Huayllay.
we visited in july 2004, i've added gps coordinates for an area with about six or seven bolted routes. stay with the family in the white house that stands alone behind one of the two tourist info buildings say 1/2km from the climbs. they are great people ask for christian or ayme liz. we hired a car in lima. buses looked a bit of a nightmare !

Nearest town or city: Junin
Directions: By bus: Find a bus from Lima to Cerro de Pasco. At the Cerro de Pasco bus terminal, smaller vehicles (combis) provide daily service to Huallyay. You can probably hire a taxi here as well. The Bosque de Piedras will be on your right as the combi draws nearer to Huayllay. Be very patient.
