Real Action Paintball has announced in a press release, a new helmet mounted camcorder which can be used in a variety of extreme sports such as mountain biking, skiing, skydiving, base jumping and of course rock climbing. The RAP4 Helmet Camcorder is said to be a tough camera capable of mounting to any helmet.

The RAP4 Helmet Camcorder is extremely light weight at only 75 grams and comes with an internet ready 1.3 megapixel resolution. It can record up to 32 gigs of of video onto interchangeable SD memory cards. This allows climbers easy ways to document their whole climbs while just switching memory cards when the previous one is full, ensuring nothing is missed. The camera is easily activated with the press of a button.

The RAP4 Helmet Camcorder also comes with a USB cable which makes the process of downloading the recorded data onto the computer a quick and easy one. Otherwise the other retrieval option is to remove the SD card and place it into a card-reader and download the data from the SD card that way.

While this camera was indeed designed for paintball, they are marketing it as an all around outdoor sports camera, and why not if it fits to any helmet. And by the looks of the demo video on their site it is not of bad quality either. Though don't expect it to bring HD quality video with a maximum resolution of 640x480.

In summary here are the details of the new RAP4 Helmet Camcorder:
Memory: SD card up to 32 GB
Resolution: 640 x 480
Frame Rate: 30 frames per second
Sensor: 1.3 MP
Dimensions: 9cm x 5cm x 4cm
Weight: 75g
Box Includes: Camera, Helmet Strap, USB adapter cable

Just remember that if you mount it to a foam type helmet, then you have more than likely created an intrusion point if it is hit by rockfall or merely hit against a rock........
