I made a similar axe head in high school metal shop. It looked good, and worked fine for walking on steep slopes as a cane, but I loaned it once to a guy trying to chip a hole in 3" ice to get water and the pick snapped off right near the shaft. From your link: I still have one of these, and used it as one of my two primary tools when I was just starting out. Used it to climb the Black Dike, Repentance, and a ton of other stuff. My knuckles have never been the same.
