Any additional comments: I have a lot of shiny trad gear that needs to get some more scratches on it!

Name? John T.
Where you live? Napa
Where you like to climb? Bay Area, Tahoe, Yosemite
Type of climbing and climbing level?
I’ve been climbing off and on for 30 years. Currently I’m in an “on” phase, having moved to Bay Area from Florida a few years ago. In prime (1980) could lead 5.10+ and follow 5.11+ Trad (Sport didn’t exist then, so I’m definitely “old school”). I’m training hard to get back into shape, with the goal of climbing better than ever. Don’t see that as a problem, given the advances in gear (can you say “sticky shoes” and “cams”), and the fact that I’m actually “training.” Can comfortably lead 5.9 Sport and 5.7 Trad, and follow several grades higher.
Age? 48
Availability? Weekends, with the occasional weekday
Any additional comments?
Safety is very important to me, as I promised my wife I wouldn’t get myself killed. I’m open to pretty much anything, but multi-pitch climbs are what I always enjoyed the most.

Type of climbing and climbing level? I've only been climbing for a few months! I've done a little climbing with my dad in City of Rock, Idaho and in Yosemite. I'm really comfortable with 5.6 and okay on 5.7.
Availability? I am pretty busy between school, work, and college sports, but I usually have weekends, and sometimes can work in Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays!

Any additional comments? I'm really looking for someone in the area who is willing to work with a beginner. When I go back home I climb with my dad, but I don't have anybody up here to climb with!!! I have some experience, but not much!

Also, my sister and I try to get back to the valley as much as possible, so if anyone is looking to catch a ride between the San Francisco area and the Yosemite area, let me know!!!

Name? Seann

Where you live? San Jose

Where you like to climb? Valley, Pinnacles, Lovers Leap, Jtree

Type of climbing and climbing level? Trad: lead 5.8, follow 10- Aid lead C2

Age? 28

Availability? (off weekends, etc) Weekends, but can readily do longer trips if they are quality.

Any additional comments? I'm always looking to climb with new folks. I enjoy one on one, or joining into a crowd. My rack is fat, and I don't mind climbing with relative newbies. I enjoy crack, chimney and even following a little OW now and again. I don't like sport climbing.

Any additional comments? I like to climb with anyone who has safety as their first priority, but an optimal partner for me would be someone local, with a 4 year old son too, a wife who sometimes climbs but would probably prefer to spend half the day birding, and also skis (I'm a better skier than climber) :) Sometimes climb with the family, sometimes without.

Age? 22
Where you live: San Jose, CA
Where you like to climb: I've climbed at Castle Rock, Pinnacles, Tuolumne, and Owen's River Gorge and have bouldered @ Mickey's Beach & Bishop. I've got my ass handed to me at Jailhouse (projected & redpointed the warmup climb haha).
Type of climbing and climbing level?
Sport: mid-to-hard 11s
Bouldering: V7/8
Availability? (off weekends, etc) Weekend day trips
Any additional comments? Most of my climbing has been either inside, or bouldering and sport climbing outside. I haven't done any trad climbing yet, but I would LOVE to learn. Right now, my biggest challenge is trying to find time to head outside and climb, due to a pretty heavy work and school schedule. However, I can manage day trips on weekends.

Type of climbing and climbing level? Trad mostly, will do sport. Will lead 5.7 up to some 5.9s. Will follow low 5.10.

Age? 45
Availability? off weekends, but I have to compromise. If you have a good climb in mind , I will take workdays off. Right now I'm busting my butt putting in a new yard for wife, so this is the closest I get to climbing.

Any additional comments? My goals included some 5.9s and 5.10 in Yosemite, and some alpine climbs in the Sierras. I am trying to get in more miles on 5.7-5.9 leads and work my skills up.

Glen Olson

24 years old

Live in Roseville (NE of Sac about 10 miles)

Climb at the Leap, Consumnes, in the Valley, Tuolumne, wherever else?

Generally free weekends, but can be free weekdays if I know ahead of time.

Prefer moderate trad multipitch, but I'm down with anything you've got in mind.

Are you Alison the Access Fund rep? If so, would you please update local climbers on what you've done in regards to the situation at Auburn? Myself and several other local climbers feel like you've done little to keep the local climbing population informed what, if anything, you've done to get climbing access.

Please take a look at this thread

I'm starting a climbers organization to try to get climbing legalized at the Quarry in Auburn State Recreation Area. Let's work on getting access to one of the best sport climbing venues in NorCal!

Name? Laura

Where you live? Sacramento, moving soon to east SF bay

Where you like to climb? day trip: Lover's Leap, Phantom Spires, Cosumnes, Sonora pass, Big Chief. Longer trip: Owens, Yosemite / Tuolumne, J Tree, Red Rocks. Open to exploring anything within a day's drive or so but try not to trad on choss.

Type of climbing and climbing level? Outside I mostly follow trad or sport. I feel confident following up to 10A multi-pitch face or slab, but I'll try single pitch up to 10D. Downgrade me to about 5.8 on cracks that require true crack technique (e.g. hand jams, liebacking). I'm starting to lead sport up to 5.8, trad a few grades lower. In the gym I lead in the 10s, TR/hangdog up to 11C.

Age? 29 until Jan 2006. :)

Availability? Weekends and long weekends are good. I have a flexible schedule so some day trips can be arranged too.

Any additional comments? I have a full rack and a low-clearance car. I hate to be cold, so sun exposure is important to me in the winter. I'm good with approaches up to about 3 miles but prefer short approaches most of the time. I just injured a ligament but hope to be climbing again around New Year's. Love to meet climbers, look me up!

Name? Casey

Where you live? Davis

Where you like to climb? Lover's Leap, Cosumnes River Gorge, Mammoth, South Lake, Phantom Spires

Type of climbing and climbing level? New to climbing, just got into the outdoors. I haven't led yet, but I've followed some multi-pitch.

Highest level? Top rope around 5.9 to 5.10. Equally good on crack, face, and slab.

Age? 21

Availability? (off weekends, etc) Weekends.

Any additional comments? I'm new to climbing, but I'm diving into it headfirst. I really want to get out there and study some gear placements and lead, and also want to respect the spirit and ethic of climbing. I've know a few good people around Davis who are totally willing and able to mentor me, but I'm always looking for new partners to learn from. Have nut tool will travel.

Name: Chris

Live near San Jose

Climb trad, sport, toprope, whatever. Normally up to 5.10 but go higher when I feel like it. Climbing like 11 years or so, safe haven't killed anyone yet. Blah, blah.

Where?: Usually Castle Rock 'cause it's close to home, but take trips to the Sierra. Open to some longer trips where ever.

Usually climb on weekends but with advance notice I can get some time during the weeks or arrange for extended weekends.

Name? Jared Casper
Sex? Male
Where you live? Palo Alto
Where you like to climb? Rumney, but I don't live in Boston anymore.
Type of climbing and climbing level? Pretty much a sport junkie... but would happily follow trad and like bouldering, but I don't have a crash pad. I was leading harder 10s when I left Boston and got married in August, but I haven't touched rock since. :( So at a different area and with five months break, I have no idea what level to say. I'll attempt to TR/follow just about anything.
Age? 25
Availability? I'm a grad student, so pretty much any day any time (except Sundays).
Any additional comments? It's been too long, I need to get back on rock. Let me know if you wouldn't mind showing me around. I have a sport rack and a small suv. My wife, Colleen, has climbed a bit and would want to come if her work schedule allows, she can climb up to .8s or so.

I know this is a little earlier than Feb. But, I figured that sooner notice wouldn't hurt. I'm starting to get my family into climbing again and it would be nice to start them up with a family atmosphere. I've been climbing for 5+ years now with the occasional 2 week break. Lead trad in the 10's, and love to big wall. I just moved to Sparks from So Cal. Huge change in weather. Don't really know where to climb locally in this weather.
Let me know if you're interested when you get back.

I just moved to Berkeley. I would REALLY like to get out and climb as much as possible, since the weather is nice almost every day of the year. I'm ok with gym climbing, but would much rather get out. But I know... no one here. So pm me or email if you'd like to climb sometime. -Kat (alpineluz@gmail.com)

Now that we've all introduced ourselves, I propose we rip off an an east coast thing started by the The MASS CLIMBERS Thread and make this thread an ongoing thing where bay area climbers organize small gatherings, meet new partners, welcome climbers new to the area (such as myself), chat (such as the posts on Auburn SRA a few pages back), etc. Any thoughts?

I'd like to say I will plan a first gathering, but since I don't know anybody and have never climbed in the area I'm definitely not the guy for the job.

That being said, anyone want to show a sportie new to the area around Castlerock or the Pinnacles? (see my info a couple posts up)

Name: David
Where you live: Mountain View
Where you like to climb: I just moved here, so no bloody clue
Type of climbing and climbing level: I used to climb a lot in Seattle, mostly did sport, upto 10c outdoors, and 10d indoors. That was 5 years ago though, and I'm a bit stronger, but out of practice.
Age: 23
Availability: Currently any time
Any additional comments:

I have gone ice climbing 3-4 times in the last few years, and I have boots, crampons and tools for myself. If you want to ice climb, let me know.

I'm looking for a regular climbing partner or a group of folks to climb with in the area. I'm also down for trips in the area.

Just as a thought, has anyone here thought about trying to turn all of this into a real database of climbers? It's damn near impossible to find partners when you move some place new, and a searchable DB would be tight.
