i know this is kind of a silly question but which chalk bag is better to get. A metalious or prana bag. Mostly for indoor bouldering and top rope. thank you.

well.... since you'll be in the gym, i think the seam coagulation angles on the prana bag would fit you best. you also must consider the hand acceptance angles with which you'll be dealing, you see the metolius is more inverted at the vortex and the prana is extroverted at the cintex so keep that in mind. i am in no way an expert on the subject but this should give you a head start. i would suggest going to your local mountain shop and asking an experienced chalk bagineer this question.

i would definitly consider the metolious more of a trad bag, though i personally use a prana cordoroy that has actually served me quite well even in the alpine enviroment.

It's an effing CHALK BAG. For all the BS they try to sell you, get one that seems the right size for your hand, and has a nice stiff rim. I like my Metolius one for trad, but gym rats seem to like the "stylie" prAna gear.

It appears that you're serious about this question so I'm going to give you a serious answer free of flamage and mockery....Brand doesn't matter. However, make sure you don't buy one of those geeky euro microbags made for smurf hands. Why people buy those I don't understand. Buy one large enough that you don't have to futz around with just to get some chalk.

i use a ductape chalk bag... i got salk, put it on a nalgean bottle, wrapped it in ductape, somehow made a drawstring on it....and wala... and it was free. and if i loose it. il use the other sock and make another

I hear pranas feel really nice. But any thing works. My suggestion is to buy one of those plastic bags of chalk, hole-punch the bag, connect to biner/harness. Pretty ghetto but it'll work. =P

Buy the chalkbag that:
1) Has the better closure system
2) Makes entry easy and is big enough to fit whichever part of your hand needs chalk the most
3) Has the pattern you like

When I'm bouldering, my prana bag adds one or two grades to my climbing, but for leading trad I have to strap on my metolius bag. The difference is simply amazing. I just can't imagine sketching through the crux on a multi-pitch climb, my left leg shakin' like elvis, scared that my last piece (and the backup) will blow and reaching into a prana bag to dust up. No way. I would consider getting a different chalk bag for bouldering, trad, sport and indoor. That way you'll always be dialed in.

you know- its not the stupidest question ever...
for those of us unfortunate to be doing too much of our climbing indoors- and therefore having to carry around gear in a gym bag- a chalk bag that SEALS at least reasonably well helps keep chalk out of the rest of your life... Despite having drawstring closures- some designs are better than others at keeping chalk inside... of course, the identity of the better sealing chalkbag is typically discovered after the one you DID buy has yet again liberally dusted all your work clothes, your cell phone, pager, palmpilot, pet hamster, and climbing shoes with chalk- and you think, man, the chalk bag I didn't buy would have sealed better!
Hmmm... whatever. Good luck...

ok, unlike most of the other population in here, i'll try to be serious along with you. i have both a prana and a metolius and i'd have to say that i like the metolius better. i am only, as of right now, an indoor climber and i like the metolius bag better, because it seems to be a little bit bigger and easier to get my hand into. the prana seems to seal the chalk better though, because it closes easier, because of the fleece lining. for smaller hands, though, i'd say that the prana is better. feels nicer and isn't as stiff. my girlfriend now has the prana and she loves it. but anyway i'd have to say overall go with the metolius and you will NOT be dissappointed. hope this helped.

personally i made my own chalk bag, and for few buck shipping money send me a hawain shirt an ill make you one too, i just couldnt justify friggin 18 bucks for a bag of cloth so i busted out the sewing machine and got to it, come to think oof it i make a lot of gear, i even made my own chakpot.

a good chalk bag does not throw magnesite all over your backpack (perfect closure & good stitches), is light, has (once fully opened) an easy opening for the shape of your hands, and is as small as possible for the size of your hands (if they are huge you won't like my tiny petzl, but the smaller the chalkbag, the less your hand will move around inside it when you're about to tackle the crux... a single quick gesture and you're done).

Hahaha, chalk bagineer, that's so awesome. On a side note, prana bags suck...the inner lining on mine gets caught inside the drawcord hole everytime I try to close it and it's already ripped once.

Get whatever matches your beanie. In this case, most likely a Prana. While you are at it, get 2, then you won't have to reach clear to the back of your harness, you can have one for each hand.

Just get the cheepest one. Chalkbags are chalkbags so get one with the design you want and they all have pretty much the same designs so just get the cheepest one and make sure it isnt too big or you will have a ton of space(this probably will not happen) for nothing or that it isnt to small that your hands barely fit in it.
Id say go with the Metioulus cuz its cheeper.

Neither get the pusher chalk bag that looks like an old ladies quilt. You don't have to climb hard because everyone thinks you suck, so if they climb harder than you it's expected. And you also get to make people look bad when you climb harder than they can.
