Hey all, some of you may know me on this site already... I am looking for a partner who is serious about a committment to training and climbing. Someone I can count on to hit the gym with me (Earth Treks-Timonium) and take trips with me to the Gunks, Seneca, New River and so on. I have a great partner, but I know that his commitments to family and work will preclude him from traveling and pushing limits with me this coming spring and summer as often as I would like. I also need a regular partner for the gym to run laps with and to help each other push further. I plan on trips almost each weekend this coming spring, summer and fall with the Gunks being my primary location. Please let me know if you are interested, or want any more information on me. Thanks Erock www.geocities.com/yorkclimber

If you are looking for a SERIOUS partner you might try burt bronson, last bastion of the serious hardman. However, he usually solos stuff, and I don't think he climbs in the gym too much. But, he is SERIOUS.

Hey Eric, Theres no doubt in my mind that we can hook up for some productive days at the gunks when the weather gets a little nicer. When are you coming up north for winter fun? Jeff ps. Kinda rediculous how you cant even look for partners around here without catching a whole bunch of worthless replies.

Dude, totally! I hate it that I never find a serious partner. I love the gunks and trainging. I really just want to send the yellow wall instead of whipping at the second roof every time! I'm in, as long as by "serious" you mean that we drink every day instead of climb, and by "partner" you mean that I don't ever have to meet you (or anyone who looks for a partner on rc.com) holla, murda, uh-oh!

I would love to get to he gunks every weekend, but I think my fiance would have a fit. She really enjoys bouldering and short climbs. I know I could manage every other weekend. As for gym training, your gym is a little far from me. If you want to talk send me a pm, and we can see if this can work out.

Sorry man; I'm quite interested, but I know that I don't climb at anywhere near your level of expertise. If you do need the occassional partner, I'd be delighted to meet up at the Gunks; however, it would be an easier day for you. T

I will be doing many a trip[ up to the gunks and elsewhere but I hate the gym. I only go every once in a while to maintain when it is just too cold to go outside. As far as seriousness, I am commited to climbing but I still do this for FUN so if it is not enjoyable to climb with someone I don't. PM me if you want to get out on a weekend. Mabye rocks SP this weekend?

By serious I don't mean that it won't be fun. I climb because it makes me happy. I am just looking for some people to have regular partnerships with. All abilities are welcome. It would be good to hook up with some people that can help me push my limits some too however. But I don't climb if itsn't fun either!!!

In reply to: I am a newbie climber (5.8-5.9) but you are the first I have noticed in this hemisphere ... I climb at EarthTrek Columbia ... and what are Gunks? Doc 5.8-5.9 indoors doesn't equate to 5.8-5.9 at the Gunks. No way, no how. The Gunks is a trad-climber's mecca in New Paltz, NY, with a huge concentration of multi-pitch (2-4 pitch) routes on bullet-hard conglomerate. The Gunks are famous for their sandbagged grading (meaning that the actual grade is harder than the written grade), unexpected and wild exposure even on easy routes, horizontal cracks instead of vertical, and roofs of some sort on nearly every route. The area also has a very high concentration of multipitch routes in the beginner-to-intermediate range, although anyone in the know will tell you that the easy routes are usually sandbagged. T

I would have a hard time calling the Gunks a "Mecca." As for finding partners, just work on having a really positive attitude and be able to rope-gun everything under the sun, then people will be giving you their numbers, rather than you having to beg for them.

WEll, I am not actually begging here and I always hook up with people when I go out alone. Here is the issue, when I push hard trad lead i.e. 11-12 I want someone who can definitely follow and who I am sure knows what they are doing. I don't just trust my life to someone I meet for the first time.

Sure, the Gunks doesn't have the name and following that Yosemite has, but it was interesting to talk to people in Australia who climb in the Arapiles and hear them gush about how they'd always wanted to climb at the Gunks.

Even if refugee really can't hold a candle to rokshoxbkr19, you gotta admit, rokshoxbkr19 is coming across as both kinda pathetic and kinda narcissistic. But that's cool. I mean, you gotta put yourself out there, and why not use a website to go for what you want? And big egos are reasonable to expect in the climbing world. It can still be funny, though! GO

Hey refugee, I met rokshoxbkr19 one day last fall and pretty much saw him climbing throughout the day. He was actually a really nice person, was very helpful and patient with the new leader he was following, and not an asshole at all. It's hard, a lot of the time, to get a sense of people's personalities when all you have are posts, but I think it is a better idea to err on the side of kindness rather than assuming negativity..... Oh, and yeah....he's a good climber. The only thing bad I can say about him is that I think I remember him saying something about eating insects once....and enjoying them. But I could be wrong.....

Wow, I certainly didn't envision this topic being as interesting as it has turned out to be, but then again even bad things can come of the best of intentions. I think it says something about the people on this site when someone can't even make a simple post about looking for partners without people being rude. How so much negativity can be born from none at all blows my mind. Peace out and keep it comin...

I've certainly been there on very busy weekends withouth having any idea why it's so busy. I doubt I've ever climbed with rokshoxbkr19. I have pretty regular partners, and I mostly climb with older men and beautiful women. But I am quite social when I'm climbing, so I may have discussed the tastiness of the Gunks ants with rokshoxbkr19 without knowing who he was, and you may have overheard us. Anyhow, I don't want to hijack his thread toooo much. Best of luck rockshocker dude! GO

In reply to: In reply to: In reply to: Hey refugee, I met rokshoxbkr19 one day last fall and ... the only thing bad I can say about him is that I think I remember him saying something about eating insects once....and enjoying them. You may be confusing him with me. There's biting ants at the Gunks. I bite back. I'm bigger - I win. And... they taste just like little lemon drops! Yum! Now that I think of it....the leomn drop taste thing does sound familiar. Were you at the PA Gunks Gathering last year and climbing with rokshoxbkr19? Because I definitely know who he is, but maybe I am remembering the wrong person as being the insect eater..... If I remember this incident correctly, I was the new leader on Arie Aria, and you were leading a climb right next to it. Coffee something, or some kind of java sounding climb. Eric caught some kind of large insect in his mouth. We were all stuck there next to the yellow wall because it was raining. Maybe I am wrong but the details seem reasonably close.

In reply to: I would have a hard time calling the Gunks a "Mecca." Really? I think it is the best trad climbing area in the United States. Curt

Sure Eric (thats what i heard people calling you). I would love to train in the gunks but your gym is too far. I live closer than you do to the gunks so PM me almost anytime and I will be good to go. I have 5 years experience, but am coming off a biking injury so will need to get my strength back. I would be willing to follow you up 5.9/ some 10 untill I get going again. I have a full rack and a pick up truck to haul it around. I should be out of jail by the time it's warming up...joking. anyway send me a PM as the weather warms up
