We all get them from time to time. What are the most common and perhaps dumbest questions non-climbers ask you? Or what one do you hate being asked? Or what's the strangest question you've been asked? The most common ones I get are:"How do you get the rope up there?" and "what happpens if you fall?" :D 8) :P

yep, generally speaking, climbers are still seen as having a death wish. The one statement that usually bothers me is:"I could never do that!" Well, how do you know?? Most people who try it once can't wait to try it again. But, some people are petrified of heights, and just can't do it. Oh well, maybe I should just lighten up!!

I frequently get "Do you get scared up there?" or "How high do you climb?" Doesn't really bother me, though, I mean, it's not like they know or anything. K.

The most common questions I've received in regards to big wall climbing are: "You mean you sleep up there?" followed by, "How do you go to the bathroom?"

I always get the "why don't you jsut walk up over there...then you can get ot the top alot easier". Then, all of a sudden, the 12 year old kid whos pointed this out is a better climber than you because he could get to the top faster than you could  Then...I got one that jsut plain flabbergasted me...while lowering and cleaning a route (trad lead to setup a toprope, not sport) someone asks "arent people going to get mad becuase your taking all that stuff down with you?"

"Oh dear God, Why?" "Really? Didn't see that coming." "Ever hit the ground?" "What do you do when you get to the top?" These questions crack me up more than anything else. Mr. Mons

I was out climbing with my brother one day, in Elbsandstein, Germany where routes are protected with big ringbolts about 2.5 inches in diameter. We had just rappelled when a group of tourists walked by and one of them asked "Where do the rings in the rock come from?" and my brother, with a totally straight face proceeds to tell the following tale: "Well you know, all of this used to be an ocean. The tall rocks would stick out above the water surface. Then the Vikings came and put those rings into the rock to tie their ships to. Now you see, depending on the water level you have rings at different heights." And these people bought it! I had to turn away because I laughed myself to tears. G-Man
