I did my first outdoor sport lead over the weekend down at RRG! I feel so great about overcoming my fear!

Oh and by the way RRG is amazing! Stayed at Miguel's for three nights and the camaraderie of all the climbers was so cool! I felt completely at home down there and can't wait to get back soon. Wish I could have climbed more - the rock was beautiful.

I've been climbing for about 5 months now and my biggest accomplishment has been simple improvement. I conquered an overhanging boulder problem that took me a while and I've gotten away from the P's and into the rated routes at the gym! I couldn't believe it when I was able to do those 5.7's and 5.8's. I've really seen my strength and technique improve and I'm the happiest girl in the world, and that's just indoors!
Outside I have climbed many a boulder problem that I didn't think I would be able to, including the Scoop at Rocktown. I'm also conquering my fear of heights which is a huge accomplishment! I did that on a 5.8 route at Leeda, TN.
Basically I'm tackling my fears and kicking their butts!

I did my first trad lead this weekend -- actually my first lead at all. Evidently I did it right, because I'm here posting about it!

...anyone wanna teach me the secret climber's handshake?

I'm pretty stoked because I just started trad leading two months ago and I went climbing yesterday and led like, 6 pitches. My friend climbing with me had no previous multi-pitch experience, so it was totally my show. I was proud of myself for being competent and safe and for doing all the leading. :D

I went bouldering... pulled a few tendons in my left arm, bruised an ankle...but it was a beautiful day and I had a great time and sent some tough problems (though I failed on many more). I'm not really a boulderer....but maybe I will be soon!

Latest accomplishment:

I finally lead. I can't believe I actually did it. I lead Hippie Dreams at Summersville Lake in W.V. It was awesome. And a bit scary. But it was a great first lead. I am now wanting to lead all the time.........it's good stuff.

This weekend I did my first ONSITE (all) TRAD LEAD ~~5.7 in Vedauwoo!
& I did it with a total calm and cool head . . . I am finally getting a trad head!!

Normally I use the crutch of climbing the climb on TR first before I lead, but this year I have been really working on the onsites. :o

I have led a lot in the Black Hills (SD) but most of it is either not all Trad, Sport (ick) or so easy it doesn't count. :?

I got out to Pace Bend park off of highway 71 out of Austin finally. This in itself was a personal accomplishment since every force in the universe seemed to prevent earlier attempts to get out there. Went to Thurmond Cove and hopped into the water with an inner tube. Saw dudes climbing a tough overhang and got on it. Did the left line thrice until nerves cooled off. Then I topped out the 35ft. problem and ended up right in front of a sunbathing bikinist. Apologizing for my victory whoop, I jumped back in the water for some traversing. Damn fun day, despite other annoyances going on in the background. Woo hoo!

Ok, my latest accomplishment...IN early June I climbed Devil's Tower. I summited not just once, but twice in one day, and once the next day. I was joined my my 12 year old son and my love, Mitchal. I felt like "queen of mountain" after those two days of climbing.

Nice! My wife really enjoyed climbing at Rumney the one time we got up there. She particularly enjoyed the dihedral route at Parking Lot wall that is in that corner. Cloe's Breakfast Special, that's it. An easy climb at 5.8, but aesthetically it was awesome. Have you led that route yet?

So when are you going to start working Esspresso? That was the hardest climb I tried that day. Man, do I ever want to go back there.

Lonesome Dove was my second 5.10 lead and I loved it. The view is incredible, like you said, and the climb was fun, challenging, and didn't scare the pants off me

Summitted Devils Tower via the Durrance with the Bailey Direct finish. Woohoo. Stayed with Frank and Lorna Sanders, who are personal friends...but who also own and operate the Devils Tower Lodge. Frank has put up numerous routes on the Tower in his 30 years of climbing and I felt very fortunate to have the experience of climbing with him. He guided my husband and I, giving us the respect of being experienced climbers (took us up 5.10a and b without tellings us the ratings until we were done) while teaching us all kind of stuff I didn't know. I have to say...its great to lead yourself...but it is an awesome experience to follow behind the likes of Frank Sanders.

I onsighted two 11a's two days in a row. I know the grades shouldn't mean anything, but it sure feels good when you get on something hard and just don't let go 'till you reach the anchors.

I've just started to lead, but until recently I've only been leading way below my climbing ability (which is up to 5.10). I've also been top roping climbs first to "warm up" before leading.

Knowing I need to start really getting my "lead head" last week I lead every climb except the 5.10's I did out at Vantage - including a 5.9.

Funny though - that 5.9 (which was my 3rd climb) felt a lot easier than the 5.8 I started on. I was so determined to make the first difficult move (One Move Blunder) I wasn't worried about being on the sharp end of the rope after that.

Yee ha!

picked up Lynn Hill's book, "Climbing Free" at the library and finished it. found really great inspiration in her humility, determination, accomplishments and some of her values.

decided to try to climb at my best. though it's still tempered w/ avoiding injury, 'cause I can't afford it. am trying harder climbs inside/outside. it's interesting to see that I can climb more challenging routes/sequences than I believed. I still believe every route has something to learn from...
