Looks like I'm the fattest!

6'6'' at 260 pounds, some of it muscle, some of it fat. I'm climbing at a 5.8 level right now, I've been climbing on and off for years but I'm now serious about it, and I'm not in caves anymore. The good news is that I've been climbing for almost a year now and I lost 50 pounds, and gained back 10, so I'm guessing that the 10 I gained back is directly proportional to how my arms and legs are almost pure muscle now, and well my belly.... 'nother story

Running at 5'10" 165-170. (Levi’s 32 X 32-34) No too shabby, but got plenty O' insulation for those long, cold desert nights. (As well, it makes me awfully cuddly.) Currently leading 5.10a trad.

Just over a year ago, I maxed out at 204…(No need for that Zero degree bag.) Buddha-belly for sure…but I was still trad leading 5.8. And there are plenty of 5.8 trad routes at Josh, Tahquitz, Red Rocks, etc.

No need to stop climbin’ because you haven’t stopped eatin’.

Each year I put on what I call my “Winter Coat” (About 10 lbs. of fat) and I have various sizes of pants to match. And then spend a little time in the Spring shedding it.

Is this Healthy…???…Nope, hard on the heart. I’ve been lifting and training most of my life, so to drop 10 lbs just takes a few weeks of know-how, hard work, and dedication. But I don’t do it for the climbing; I do it because I like my routine. Yea, I could “avoid” gaining the weight in the first place. (Hey, you do what you do and I’ll do what I do.) (Smile)

Take a look at my Brother (Toobigtoclimb). The Boi pulls as hard as me!

I’ve always said, “We climb as hard as anyone…just on easier routes!”

(Anyone interested: Take a look at some of Adam’s pics. That’s not 180 lbs of fat…that’s for sure…the Dude rips.)

Smellydude you are my twin practically.
205 lb 6'2" 30 yrs old.
5.9+ trad, 5.10 sport, 5.11 gym/bouldering
I love not having to tie in but hate always having to warm my 110 pound belayer that they will move when I take the 10-20 foot whipper and they don't believe me. they learn quick enough when they go to lower me and start to rise in the air.
But size both height and overall weight do play an important part in my climbing. I am pulling twice as much weight up the wall as some so when I make the same move the 18 year old whipper snapper did I feel I have accomplished more than him, although of course this isn't a competition.

Anyway, see ya'll at Taquitz, JTree, and Yosemite this summer after I move back down to smoggy LA.

I agree with what litedawg just wrote. Big doesnt really mean fat. when I started climbing a little over a year ago, I was 225, 4 months before that I was 250, and that was a fat 250. When I couldt tread water in a life jacket while tring to get a pair of water ski's on without hyperventilating it was kind of a wake-up call. By summer '01' I was under 200, climbing hard 2-3 times a week, running 3 mi 3-5x a week, wakeboarding 4-6x a week. I'll get back closer to 190 this summer and due to my age and unwillingness to do crunches, I'll still have a bit of a gut, but am I fat? out of shape? naaahhhh.

Mike is that you?????? Actually I have a brother named Mike. And my climbing partner is 125lbs wet........with hard boots........ and a full rack. well thats a bit pushing it but he is smaller than me. Yes I did not mean big as in fat, I just meant large and not a skeleton with skin. I mean this 195lbs of twisted steel and sex appeal is ready to dance, prance and romance. I play ice hockey, squash, cycle to work.......both ways;) So I stay fit.

I'm 5'10" about 175, and built like a tree trunk. I can squat about 350 lbs or more (haven't tried in a while) and leg press almost 500lbs. The problem I have is that all my climbing buddies are 6'2" and 110lbs. I climb at about 5.9 trad and 5.11/5.12 sport and boulder around v4/v5. I tend to get a little frustrated when everyone I climb with can do a really tall reach route that turns into a series of dynos for me. That and I have a really hard time finding spotters. But at the end of the day I still want to climb and everyone else is tired.
Plus, I usually end up packing all the gear up the mountain. it seems someone who is 110 pounds has a hard time carrying 75+lbs of gear.

Not quite sure if I "qualify" as a "big boy" but I certainly dont look like the typical stick figure climber.

"the bigger they are the flatter their spotter is...."

ps: has anyone else noticed how many climbers have little chicken legs..

i'm with you rob...
squating 400 gives rise to large legs. my 141 spiderman friend makes fun of me, but its cool.

i'm about 205 now and climbing about 5.10 max. gym seems wacked sometimes, but its 10+/11-.

i sweat proficiently and am inflexible. great combo on plastic... climbing and football go hand in hand:)

I just love to see the gym owners eyes when I dyno up to some one-handed pocket and the whole wall shakes....
I have been known to rip holds off walls and break footholds.

but being big makes me work on technique (sp) more than anything else.

I am trying to drop about 10 lbs. Last winter combined with a desk job gave me some extra insulation.
