Check it out for your self. The cinematography isn't bad but almost everything else falls short. I've seen it twice. Should be able to get this one at Blockbuster soon. I'm still trying to get a source for "Scream of Stone". I saw that one at a film festival in Toronto.

THE CLIMB
Now shipping on VHS and DVD!

Go from heart-stopping to heart-warming…and back.

Two hotshot moutain climbers forge an uneasy friendship in order to reach their ultimate summit. A daring rescue just earned flamboyant Derrick Williams (Jason George, Sunset Beach), the climb of a lifetime, but his dream comes with an unwanted partner. “Safety man” Michael Harris (Ned Vaughn, The Beach Boys) doesn’t hot dog, doesn’t blaze trails and rarely takes life to the edge.

Media attention forces training to take a back seat in their fire-and-ice relationship. But no amount of training can prepare them for the harsh reality of the Chilean Andes. The Climb escalates into a test of wills, character and sacrifice that pushes both men beyond limits.

Features compelling performances by Dabney Coleman (Stuart Little), Clifton Davis (Any Given Sunday), Todd Bridges (Diff’rent Strokes) and newcomer Kyli Saantiago.

A World Wide Pictures release of a Billy Graham Evangelistic Association film.

Length: 99 minutes
Type: VHS-NTSC, DVD (All Regions)
Rating: PG
Language: English
Closed Caption: Yes
Publisher: World Wide Pictures

I agree, K2 has some awesome climbing (probably the beginning climbing clip is my favorite clip ever from any movie) in it and Vertical Limit is ok too... what's Hard Grit about?

I thought Doseage on DVD by big up productions was really good. If you only like bouldering then rampage with sharma was a good one.

For those who mention the IMAX Everst film - If you read the credits at the end you would notice that many of the shots, expecially from the top, were recreated in New Zealand.
Always read the small print.......
Disappointing i say.

I have Rampage, but didn't like it as much as Friction. There was a lot of nonclimbing filler stuff in Rampage, and though I know Sharma is a great climber, I was more impressed by the women in the video who used all body technique as opposed to apply the sticky, strong fingers on tiny holds while upside down and use nothing but arm to climb technique.

Scream of Stone was good as mentioned on page 2. I also liked the movie called The Climb.

...And then read "Into Thin Air" by John Krakauer, and read what was going on at the time Everest was filmed... And you'll have a new appreciation for the movie.

abkaiser......
I have read "Into Thin Air" and most of the other books on the 96 disaster on Everst..
I do not see how this would make me appreciate the Imax movie more..
If i wanted a drama could easily watch Cliffhanger.....
I wanted to see the real Everst on the big screen and most of it was of mountains I have already seen in NZ..
Heartless????
Maybe....

Gotta agree with the Eiger Sanction... the north face of the Eiger is one bad-ass climb (I just finished reading White Spider: of the first 10 people to attempt it prior to its first ascent, 8 died and 2 retreated), and the Eiger Sanction has some great footage of climbing (realistic climbing) on the route.

The Eiger Sanction with Clint Eastwood is a great movie and even better book. The scene in the movie of Clint climbing the desert towers as he prepares for an attempt on the North face of the Eiger is great.

"You're gonna have a hard time locking in on that finger after I bite it off." - Clint

Oh, wait. That was "Heartbreak Ridge". And the guy was going to do something else with his middle finger.
