Well guys I didn't expect this much debate over this! I definitely think that the right way for me is to take a guide and see how things work out first. Since I'm impatient, my friend and I found a place where they have a few sport climb routes (Mount Nemo), and tried it out. We sucked. BIG TIME. I mean, we couldn't find an easy enough route to even try it out on, and moreoever, the fear of getting past the bolt was slowing us down. No one was hurt or anything (since we didn't even get very far). Luckily, I was introduced to a friend of a friend, who is an experienced climber (and worked as a guide for a long time). He has tonnes of experience, and is willing to take my buddy and I for free (he refused payment) to learn how to trad on very easy routes - I'm not sure how it's going to go exactly. Anyway once again, everyone was really helpful and also good debate! Thanks!
