Don't use vain dieties... jews and christians are offended, athiests will insult your intelligence, agnostics will ask questions like"how do you know there is one an whether he/she is good?", and to muslims you are an infidel because you said "god" and not "Allah"
(did I leave anyone out?)

As for the toy 'biner / border collie / trashcan / color==strength webbing, this has been most informative. But what if you used a bordercollie clipped to a trashcan with a toy biner, and then painted it neon yellow for extra strength? According to the reigning philosophy here, that would be about as bomber a placement as one could get!

:D

Sorry to be a spoilsport, but the original test was really not fair to those of us who use the less expensive models - there should have been two opposed and rotated.

My border collie doesn't use protection of any sort-- we had to get him fixed.

Wow so I guess I shouldn't have been using those keychain biners and the cheap yellow rope for climbing eh? Although since I use duct tape gloves for better grip I think I'll be ok. Not to mention all the helium balloons (sp) I tape to my butt in case I fall (they also help you make it up the route faster). And for the record, it is best to use de-clawed k9s when climbing.

OMG!!! You use that yellow rope! You are going to DIE! DON"T USE YELLOW ROPE. All the rest of the stuff listed above is ok and I can personally certify it's safety...but that yellow rope I would never trust.

Don't use the red webbing either. It's weaker than the other colors.

I thought they discontinued making the red webbing because the red dye was found to cause cancer.

And please, everybody, remember -- if you're using toy biners with standard spring gates instead of the threaded screwgates, be sure to set your anchors using 2 carabiners with the gates reversed and opposed.

I heard Bison was releasing a bent-gate version of their popular dogbone-shaped biner. They intend to pair this with their classic straight-gate heart-shaped biner on MacGyver Brand dental floss for the world's lightest quickdraw.

SWEET!!! :D

Is anyone carrying them in stock yet... my Mambas are looking WAY sketchy, not to mention HEAVY, these days.

I love those dogbone shaped biners... I've been waiting FOREVER for the bent gate versions to come out... what took those guys so long?

Hey, anyone know what my 110 lb Black Lab is rated to? Can I use him for lead pro, or just as an anchor for belaying? And then I have my little white mutt, he has a temper and is hyper- Nookie is about 60 lb, I was hoping he would be rated to at least 15 KN. Carrying both of them off my harness gets tough- Nookie has sharp teeth and claws, and Spike is just heavy! Does Nookie get a lower rating because he isn't bred by BD or Petzl?

Warning: The black lab by itself is only rated for aid climbing so dont use it otherwise. If you paint it yellow then it is rated for free and aid climbing so it would be ok to use.

if are worried about how to protect that nasty off width you are on you could place the black lab and feed it the border collie so that it reaches its maximum expansion range.

As stated below your lab is only rated for aid climbing unless you paint him yellow. Standard yellow labs are all good. Remember that when you paint him and it dries that he becomes "stiffer" (don't ask) but then you need to be careful about placing him over edges just like with forged friends. Also, due to the large size labs are only recommended for offwidths. Nookie should be good at any time...at least for me it is. I'd rate nookie at at least 15. Make sure not to use yellow rope for the slings on either piece.

No but if ya see one let me know...I'm getting sick of carrying all these labs & trashcans for offwidths...I need something lighter. I was thinking about some kind of spring loaded expandable aluminum tube that would expand to fill the gap, but then compress down and still be nice & light...but i suppose that wouldn't work real well, or would be too flimsy, so for now I'm just sticking with labs & trashcans all on blue webbing.

you guys are all forgetting one of the finest pieces of pro offered! i know a few manufacturers produce a variety of these, but my favorite is the large trashcan filled with corgis use it together or separate all the peices, it works either way. also comes with a rope of each color i believe and an extra orange one just in case.

Does ACME make this or someone else...i bought one of those invisible holes that they coyote uses once....thought it might be good to throw up on the crag if I needed an extra hold or something...well it works good for making holes, but all my labs fell through and since they were on yellow rope I lost them...so I really dont' trust their gear anymore.

You lost them? Do you mean they were on yellow webbing? cause if it was yellow webbing this shouldn't have happened. Wait... were you using an overhand knot and was the hole your sole anchor point....

Only the ones you use to tie your shoes, don't worry.

If you use velcro shoes, you can use velcro when you climb. But it tangles easier, so learning to tie your shoes can't hurt.

Can you explain this in rabbit & hole terminology for me? I've been using duct tape to "tie things together" Also, rabbits are ok for fist cracks right?

rabbits are fine, but be careful what knots you use to tie their ears together. duct tape or velcro may be the better choice in this case.

Damn I thought this hobby was supposed to be simple...kinda like tiddlywinks....this is getting so complex I'm going to have to start taking notes. Ok:
1. tie a knot like rabbit ears
2. but use velcro on rabbits ears
3. yellow rope bad
4. yellow web good
5. red web causes cancer
6. labs are for offwidths, but only on aid
7. unless spray painted yellow then they are all good
8. trashcans are good unless tied with yellow rope
9. toy biners are ok for aid, or any static move 7 body weight
10. but fail when used in conjuction with the trash can
11. Nookie is always good as long as you have some
12. German shepherds are good due to engineering
13. but what if spraypainted yellow?
14. tying knots is not required to not fall
15. chiwawa's are good, cheap, and readily available
16. especially for desert climbing
17. it's a good thing spelling doesn't matter in climbing see #15
18. dental floss makes a great draw
19. when teamed with dog boned shaped biners
20. and the shape helps motivate the labs & shepherds to hold on
21. but does it do anything for Nookie?
22. Christmas tree bulb hangers make great hooks for flakes

Whew! That's where I am so far. Ok, I think I'm almost ready for El Cap, but just a couple of questions.

1. I have heard that I'm supposed to use nuts for climbing, but I only have two and what do I do when I have used them up?

2. I have heard that cams are good things...I have a digital, or is film better.

3. When I use a cam in a crack should I leave the lense on or take it off?

4. I have heard about slings but I only have one of those wristrocket sling shots will taht work? What do I use it for?

Thanks for all the help...you guys are so helpful for Newbies!

My 45 lbs. border collie can straighten out on of those toy biners on her chain, if she really wants what is out of reach.

I use two, opposite and opposed for my Shephard.....the dynamic rope makes for a good flip when she forgets where the rope ends......

Recommendation: Always back up a Border Collie when placing as pro...they may 'walk out' of the placement.

I used to rack a black lab also - lost him while hangdogging.

I am a little confused - is this toy biner you tested related at all ot the toy poodle you occasionally see the french climbers carry on their rack?
