In reply to: subaru for sure... I like mine. You often see a herd of these at certain crag trailheads, so I guess some other climbers do too.

o ya, I've heard of that. Its this one conversion kit you buy to convert a diesel engine to run on vegetable oil. I'd say go for that or a hybrid. In reply to: I'm sorry, but Greased Lightening kicks all of the previously mentioned vehicles butts: http://www.rockclimbing.com/...n=Show&PhotoID=57707 Pros: I got 400 miles out of my last gallon of diesel. I spent 5 dollars for the last 2000 miles of driving. When I'm running on Veggie Oil, I'm carbon nuetral, net zero carbon emmissions. I'm using garbage as fuel. My car smells good. I can go 85 up eisenhower in 5th gear because my turbo is bigger than yours. I get 45 mpg+ on diesel or veggie oil. My car shouts "I have a huge penis," especially with the flower in the dash board. Cons: I've only got 4.5 inches of ground clearance. But you know what? I'm not afraid of hiking, in fact I regard it as valuable excersise.

In reply to: subaru for sure... hosh. Here's a nice cheap Subaru wagon. Might be good for Yosemite climbers: it would be hard for a bear to damage it much. Another cheap Subaru. Here's a faster "Subaru", if you don't mind giving up a little cargo capacity.

Take the money you have saved and buy gear to travel the world. Opportunities will arise when you return. By a plane ticket, find some hostels and climb the Alps.. Stay as long as you can! You will love it. Who needs a car?

smart roadsters are not good cars for climbing, i drive one and it sucks for climbing, great around town etc but when you have to wacth clearance over speed bumps your in trouble, (you can sneak under drop barriers on most car parks mind you bein so low down)

I've got an 89' Toyota Camry that I picked up for $2200. Great gas mileage and better on the dirt than you'd expect. The unibody construction is great for those times when you misjudge your clearance. I just threw a Yakima rack and a Rocketbox on the top to haul gear. Add some KC lights and stickers, and you'll turn heads in town.

Regards, Jeff Legit as it gets, the "brown leper" has been beaten up, tortured and pissed on and still asks for more. V-dubs are a sweet ride, but make sure you have some knowledge of how a combustion engine works. Heaters in them suck ass, un-less you can get one with a working auxilary heater that runs off of unleaded. If you have the cash pick up a sportsmobile................heehee.....
