So how do I cancel plans with the girlfriend so that I can climb all weekend, and not piss her off? Crazy

Your first mistake was letting her think that you would be around on the weekend. Wink

When my wife and I started dating, she was informed from the start that I am unavailable Saturdays and Sundays because I would either be climbing or fishing. She knows better than to make plans for the weekends now and if she does, she knows that there is a good chance I won't be around.

If I were you, I would cancel. She won't be mad forever.

If only it were that easy Unsure. This is the only weekend that we can visit her family since January until August. But WHY does it have to be the first beautiful weekend of the year.

I'm going to drag her out to Blue Run Rocks saturday afternoon, though Tongue

You are setting a precedent for later interactions. It must be handled delicately.

Can a trade be worked out for some future time together?

Could you be coming down with something? I do hear an awful cough coming from your post. Seems like you might have a temperature too.

how was everyone's weekend? Was the rock as awesome as I dreamed it was?

2 more full weeks until I see sky and climbing at the same time. Hopefully the weather will be like this past weekend.

Thanks for asking, Dan! The weather was PERFECT. We had a really good day at Coll's Cove.

This weekend my wife got in 2 days of climbing, whereas I only got in one day! That's not right!

She's taking the ECP rock class (which I completed 2 years ago) and so it's my turn to watch the kiddos while she goes and learns about top ropes and safely. I was depressed, though, as Saturday, too, had amazing weather.

But I'm actually not upset that she climbed more-- my real motive in encouraging her to take the Rock class is so that she becomes more confident on the rock, and that the class will help her with her rock climbing fundamentals-- so that she goes climbing (including leading) more this summer. So my "altruism" has a little bit of selfishness at heart! Wink

I was able to use the fact that it was my birthday weekend to my advantage, and was able to get out for a few hours to Blue Run Rocks. Decent rocks but I still haven't decided if they're worth the hike in.

And to add to it, one of her favorite teachers from high school happened to be there climbing with his family so I think she really enjoyed the day after all.

Anyone going to be at Seneca this weekend? I'll be toproping the lower slabs with a buddy Saturday and hopefully Sunday.

Lisbon is about the only place that would be dry. It looks like rain straight through until this weekend.

I'm tied up tomorrow, but as Dan said the forecast looks pretty bad anyway. I might get to the gym on Sunday, as time is short and it looks like rain until 9 p.m. Saturday.

I just got done working a 36 hour shift in the ER. I doubt anyone is able to but I am going to blow off work Monday. I think I am going to try and go out to Panther (that I have posted about). If anyone is game let me know. As of now it looks like weather here should hold off. If not the home wall will have to do.

Had a good time at Seneca on Saturday toproping the lower slabs and did my first trad lead on an easy crack at Cooper's Rock on Sunday. CR didn't impress me that much but I guess its because i'm not too into bouldering.

I think a few of my college buddies are meeting me at the Mill on Thursday if anyone wants to join up.

I don't know but they had ropes on 6 of the routes at Sunset Wall on Sunday and only 2 of them were being utilized. Mad

Good job on the 1st lead. Although, I don't know if I would have left Seneca to go trad climbing at Coopers. Crazy The lower slabs have some decent, leadable climbs that would be good for a first lead. Anyway, congrats on the lead.

I agree that Seneca would have been 10 times better (I would have enjoyed scuttle) but I was with different people. At Seneca it was a friend with only TR experience (and no lead belaying experience) whilst at Cooper's it was my buddy who I learned leading with.

Gotcha. Having the right belayer is important for your first lead.

Congratulations on your first traditional lead. I'm sure you would have rather done the locations in reverse if circumstances were different. Cooper's is fun if it's not crowded, and it's pretty easy to move topropes around. If it is crowded and you run into groups that aren't willing to share routes it really puts a damper on things. There are a couple of spots away from Sunset Wall that get less crowds.
