In reply to: So am I the only dork who has made a packing list? k. Is it only dorks that make lists, I don't think so? You may want to rethink that statement before Christmas as there is a certain guy who is making a list, he's checking it twice, and he's gonna find out if you're naughty or nice. I'm sure he's not a dork

In reply to: Hey any of you coming down from Canada wanna do me a really huge favor?? I'm dying to get a case of Labatt's Draft, bottled. Can't get it anywhere down here in the states. If any of you have room for it, please please hook me up with a case. Thanks! <=glen=> Is that specifically Labatt Draft, or any Labatt beer such as Extra Dry, or how about Labatt Maximum Ice (8.2% I think)??? The cheapest option is buying at duty free but selection is more limited. Also is cans vs bottles an issue? PM me if you want or post but don't leave it too late. ONLY 3 DAYS TO GO.

If it's very late, you may havre to pitch camp in the parking area Fri nite.

i believe we will have a tent set up in the parking area...inside that tent you should find a walkie talkie...turn it on and let us know you are here... for those arriving VERY late...stay in the tent already set up, or hike the mtn...we will see you in the morning!!!!

Lookie here, please print this: Ya'll need to check this space for updates right up to when you leave. THERE WILL BE A MANDATORY MEETING FOR NEW ARRIVALS on Sat. and Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. This will be before you venture out into the preserve. IF YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW THIS, YOU SHOULD: WE DON'T GUARANTY ANYBODY'S SAFETY WHILE THEY ARE ON THIS PROPERTY. WE DON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING! Bring your 1st aid kits. Coach PM'd me with a question on arrival and parking. I hope to know later today the shape of the driveway up to the cabins, if I can get outta here. Could range from steep, narrow, muddy but fine to slick, snowy, and very scary if you're not used to it. 4WD definitely required. If you haven't heard about Annie's previous wreck, ask her. Parking is at a premium at the cabins. Plus, the fewer vehicles we have up there, the more room there will be for tents in the immediate area. There is also the idea of containing people to the mountain while partying. Which is smart, assuming we can pull it off logistically. So basically Annie and I made the rule way back when that there was no parking up there. Let's do it this way. If the turnout is decent, the VAST majority of people will have to park in the well-marked parking area in the valley, off Nelson Gap Road. In the unlikely event that it fills up, there are good spaces out along the road near the entrance station. From the parking area, the walk to the cabins is about 1/4 mi. steady uphill. Don't walk up the driveway; use Pierson's trail, which is well marked near the bottom of the driveway. If you are fast and light, just grab your stuff and trot on up. You'll see the cabins on the left, near the intersection with Gracie's trail. I'll be driving a white GMC pickup. I will shuttle anybody up or down. Hopefully we can put together a small cadre of skilled and equipped drivers to assist with this, especially during peak arrival times. If you arrive late and all else fails, camp down in the parking area until we can relocate you. AFTER DARK, NOBODY SHOULD TRY TO DRIVE TO THE CABINS THAT DOESN'T KNOW THE ROAD. ORGANIZERS: People who are bringing tons of stuff to help out, we'll let you come up, at least to unload, if it's feasible. Don't do it if you doubt your vehicle or ability. Try to touch base with somebody in the know before coming up. If you pull shuttle duty you get to park at the cabins. THIS WILL BE A LIMITED NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE DRIVEN THE ROAD AND SPOKEN TO ME, ANNIE, CAPTAINPROZAC OR SOMEBODY THAT SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON. FYI, we have never had a break in in the main parking area. The foregoing was not intended to constitute either a representation or warranty as to future events. After about noon today, I may or may not have an internet connection. I will be reachable by phone in WV at 304-567-3169. Feel free to call and let us know your arrival time and we will try to coordinate with you. BTW, that phone number will likely be the only way to get a message to you while you're on the mountain! Don't count on being able to use a cell phone or pager. If you have a global satellite uplink, bring it. This is going to be serious business. If anybody is seen horsing around or being stupid, especially with a vehicle, they are gone.

Dude, it's 56 in D.C. but feels like 70 in the sun. God damn it feels good!

who else is showing up partnerless? it looks like friday and saturday are going to be VERY nice for climbing. is anyone showing up w/a few usable hours in the day on friday to show me sport? i do not need to climb. i have no draws but i do have a rope and an assortment of standard gadgets... p.s. i expect to be showing up around noon at the very latest on friday so i can have my tent set up in time to help anne unload her things. p.p.s. do we have a grate which can go over the fire barrels to boil large amounts of water or cook things in very large pots? thanks
