The main road in town here is called 'skyway' and starts down on the valley floor, comes up through Paradise, and then heads uphill through two more small towns until it turns into a fourwheeling road. I drove up there past the snow line, parked, and skinned out until I found a hill. The particular hill I found was probably an old clear cut that had been replanted. It was clear except for 5-10 foot pine saplings. Made for some awesome powder slaloming. The conditions were 6 inches of fresh powder on older snow. Great afternoon!

The kids like hiking in the backpack, they get to pull off my cap and yank on my hair. Elizabeth is 3, so she's getting a bit old to go for a ride like that.

So, I finally got to meet the zeke and close the RC circle some more... Zeek I found out is not Zeckie... who wooda thunk it? A fairly straight forward 10 hour drive had me cross through west Texas, into New Mexico and sneak into the SW corner of Arizona. That's two more states ticked off... yeah, ticked off they didn't get to experience the Aussie sooner! It was so fucking cold a penguin's nuts would've froze off, but we pulled out some glorious pitches through sunflecks, spindrift and hard-boiled rain. Arizona had to show me all the seasons in my short visit but I unfortunately missed out on summer... oh yeah, and most of spring. It was great to meet the man and his girl... we shared some beers, smores and stories... no ropes were cutzed, but one turned into a frickin' nightmare snaggle coil on the last 70m rap as I saved us from certain doom... and by certain doom I mean shivvering off teh mountain. An inch of snow fell just as we were finished climbing the first day... where we subsequently returned to our doused fire which was deemed, by a fuck-tard douche ranger, to be unlawfully unattended and therefore a threat to everyone in existance and so put a ticket on the windshield with a waterproof covering, thereby protecting it from the oncoming drenching rainstorm, which was so full of rain and snow to put out the fires of hell, instead of actually putting out the fire himself. It only hailed on most pitches, rather than all... I was happy for that... better than rain I guess. The sun was euphoric for all of about five minutes per pitch, but the quality of the climbing made up for it. The climbing really was fantastic! After a 5 month break it was nice to take the sharp end once again. Great to meet you, Zeek!

The legend exists!!! Sweet TR. Glad you got out, even if the weather was crappy. I may be out there at some point this spring (depending on how long it takes me to figure some COBRA stuff out). So maybe I'll get a chance to meet one or both of you, too. Nice pics btw. Where in AZ is that?

Yeah, the granite has great texture and some fun features. The main line we did, Peacemaker, was mostly bolted with rap bolts at every belay, but some gear was essential, at least in our opinion. The climb was solid at the grade with about 10% 10b, 30% 10a and 30% 5.9. Cochise Stronghold is in SW Arizona. We were thinking of a meet-up at Hueco later in the year once summer is over and Fall cools things down.
