I've come back to the keyboard. Please click here to see what I have to say. ...and for funeral information, please click here. ---------------------- I'm sorry, I don't know where to post this, it's not climbing related and eventually it may be scooted into community. that's fine. Some of you may know cragchica. her name is Andria. Most of you, though, probably don't know her, she didn't post here too often. cragchica, Andria, Andria Carol Ligas died Sunday, Dec. 22 riding her bike in Tucson. maybe she was going to the grocery store, or just training for a triathalon. I don't know. but she was struck from behind by a hit and run driver. he later turned himself in. she died less than a half mile from my house, immediately, on the pavement. tucson has few street lights. because of the world-class observatories we have in the mountains just outside of town. but she is still gone. Andria loved to climb and was looking forward to trying ice and alpine and bolstering her trad rack. she had just struck a deal with a friend to get some used ice tools to learn how to swing. she was not as into sport as I am... Andria is my best friend. and now she is gone. I sent her a christmas card, in the mail, even though she lived a mile from me. I thought as a lonely student away from home she'd like getting mail, especially because the card was in spanish, a language she spoke well even though her accent was poor. none of that made any sense. I'm sorry. but I am not feeling very smart right now. I feel sick. my best friend is gone. this is real. Oh, Hillary, my heart goes out to you. I wish there was something I could do or say, but at times like this words just seem to go out the window. There will be a candle burning in my window tonight in Andria's memory. Take care of yourself, and let us know how you're holding up. Kate [ This Message was edited by: katydid on 2002-12-24 02:02 ]

What you and her family are going through must be extremely difficult...especially at this time of year. I don't know what else to say other than hang in there. She will be missed

Hillary I'm so sorry to hear this it's such a terrible thing. I know as climbers when someone dies in a climbing accident it always feels so close to home. Well I commute daily on my bicycle to work so this hits close to me in that respect. I never conversed with Andria but was always taken by her nickname Cragchica, one of my daughters friends on her soccer team is called Chica by her mom and the name always seemed so familiar. It's a very sad thing to lose a friend especially through such a senseless accident as this. If you feel the need to talk about it or just bitch about the unfairness of it all feel free to pm me. Again sorry to hear about your loss, my thoughts are with you and her family. jim

Unbelievable. That such a promising young woman could be taken from this earth so suddenly is indeed tragic. Though I was just starting to get to know Andria, on the handful of occasions that we met and talked, she was always very open, friendly, and genuine. She will surely be missed by many. I know it's never the same, but my father, brother, and childhood best friend were all killed in auto accidents (separate incidents), so if you need someone to talk to, let me know. I've been there. As an aside, if anyone hears of funeral arrangements (when and where), please let me know, since I am flying to Phoenix tonight through the 1st.

I read the first part of your post Hillary - looked at her profile and read through it -before I read down to see what had happened or why you were posting. I was hoping you were posting about her needing a roommate, or starting a gathering or something. I didn't know Andria except from her posts here and there, but what a shock for such a vibrant person to be taken so suddenly. Stay strong, hills, and know that Andria will be with you always in your heart. Losing friends and family is never easy - I can only imagine how great a person she was. My thoughts are with you Hillary - Abi

Hillary, i am so very sorry i can hardly type this...this is such sad, sad news. we often take for granted the things that life brings us, the joy of friendship and love it is only when tragities in our personal lives occur that we stop and think of the beauty that had once graced us and how we took advantage and never really saw the forest for the trees. i feel for you this morning hillary, i feel a huge sorrow and loss for you and andria's family and loved ones that mere words could never express...i look at the joy in her eyes and see that not just our small community but how the world has lost a beautiful being. life isn't fair, i am not going to try to explain why things happen as they do, all i can say is that we celebrate her life and mourn her death... i will add another angel to the christmas tree this year, her name is andria.

Hillary, My heart goes out to you and her family at this time. To lose one so young and vibrant is a shock that is always hard to accept. There are no words that can ease your pain at this moment. Cherish the time you had together and the memories you will always have. I will say a prayer for her family and friends. Coach

This is a terrible tragedy. I met Andria at the Flagstaff gathering and was immediately taken with her zest for life and warm personality. Hillary my thoughts and prayers are with you and her family. Please do not hesitate to ask if there is anything that I/we can do to help during these sad times.

I am very sad to hear of Andria’s death. Andria was at an age when she was just starting to find out how much fun life can be, just starting to develop into who she was really going to be. It is very tragic that she was killed by such an avoidable incident when she had so much living ahead of her. I can relate to Andria in many ways. I have a daughter that is only 3 years younger than Andria. My daughter loves climbing, does serious rides on a road bicycle and simply can’t wait until she can get out of high school and Dads house to attend college in a far away place. Thinking of Andria makes me think of my daughter. I am a sad person this morning. I know some of the wonderful feelings Andria has experienced both on the rock, on the road as well as being so young and away at college with her friends. I of course climb, as did she, I raced road bicycles for 15 years and have ridden many of the same roads in the Tucson area as she has and I too traveled away from home to go to college. Wonderful experiences that Andria is now cheated out of. I will think of Andria on Christmas day when I go climbing by myself and when I am back from JT in January I will ride my favorite ride and Andria’s spirit will ride with me. Bill

Hillary, First off,I know this must of been hard for you, thank you for bringing this to our attention. I didn't know her personally but I've seen her profile and posts on the site. Too all of her friends and family,my most sincere condolences, her energy will be sorely missed. With all the things we do and the limits we push, most of the dangers we face daily come not from our favorite krag or mountain top,but from our lives away from the rock!\ Mike stay safe go climb

Hillary, I am truly sorry about Andria. I am fairly new to this website and do not feel like I know anyone, but I can say this. Andria is looking down on you with a smile on her face. Next time you go climbing, halfway up the wall, stop and listen to the wind. You may hear her voice. She will be there. Josh

Hillary- Wow, what can I say that hasn't alreasy been said? It's terrible news. I had only talked to her once, but she was such a friendly and caring person. I'm also here if you or anyone else needs to talk. I went through the same thing last year with my grandma, same time of year too. It's a hard thing to deal with, but you have tons of support here. Take care.
