i love slopers, they are fun. i hate slinches. i can never get those things. they are they holds that have 2 completely flat sides that come to a point (top and bottom are unimportant).

i thought i was okay on slopers until this weekend. there's a route in my gym that has this move w/ good feet high and off to the side. i'm supposed to hit a sloper, match, and then pop up and right to a gaston pocket.

burly move, i worked it for the better part of 30 minutes. finally got it and my core is still a little bit sore.

slopers, i hate them because they kick my butt, but i love them when i figure them out/get strong enough.

Ouch.

Yeah, dynamic moves off slopers are tough on the core strength, and dynamic moves to gastons just suck. Nasty combination.

id definately say slopers are the worst for me followed by shitty pinches. i think i just need to train using slopers more to work on my open hand grip.

It is definatly slopers for me. I can do micro crimps and pockets and everything else but slopers are so freaking hard for me.

For me its not the specific holds that get me, but specific moves on specific holds. For example, the one thing i am really bad at is when you get one of those crimps that aren't incut but instead like slopey edges (in an overhang), and you have to go to another one thats far away and stick it without falling. I usually send like 3 grades under my ability on these types of climbs. Also, old and non-frictiony slopers in the gym kill me.

Dude, why is everyone hating on the slopers ? In my opinion, they are the easiest ones to hit, just slap and go, making sure your hands are dry. I hate those super huge feature-type holds, the one's where there are a billion different ways to hold them. By the time you find the sweet spot, you are greasing off the hold, and on your way to the ground... ARGH! :x . At any rate, slopers are becoming the new wave of indoor climbing holds, as they are easier on the tendons, and allow you to climb longer without as many injuries (save for the skin sloughing off of you tender tips :? ). The one type of hold that throws me is a pinch on overhanging terrain. You have to hit them just right, with surgical precision, and it's a pain in the arse... Just my 2 pennies, tho...

slopers usually rock my world. Also I suck at pinches. If it slopers or pinches I usually peel off

I don't know what these holds are called, but there are afew of them at my gym. They are like very small slopers (stick about an inch out from the wall) with a ridge on them. You can't slap your hand on them like a sloper since they are so small and you can't pinch them since they are so slopey. The only option I've seen is to dig your fingernails into that little groove. I can do it for a bit...but it makes me nervous, I feel like i'm going to rip my fingernails out.

I got exactly the opposite, I hate slopers and crimps and just love two and one finger pockets.

kubi - off the top of my head i'd say you're dealing with a slimper, combination of a sloper and crimper.

then there are slinches, combination of a sloper and a pinch.

never tried to name a sloper/pinch/crimp, is that even possible?
