Well played with the OP. This turned out to be a funny read.

Now I am serious.

I think "Not" is right. It was good reading. Why?

Here is what I was trying to demonstrate. It is possible to talk about serious things with serious emotion, and even use the short words

but still get a message across ( a rare accomplishment)

as long as you do one thing.

Come from the point of view that you are just as imperfect as the other guy.

That's all.

Good show wjca. I cross posted your stuff to ST and Kerwin said

"ho man. Pure gold"

I am sure you know KLK. That's some really high praise from a great source.

Good crew here.

Wait! Wait! Shocked

You posted this topic 8 years and 2 months ago. Then you basically stayed silent for all those years, and finally came back to remind us about this?

It's not even about rc.com, and it's certainly not about any kind of climbers I know. Crazy

Are you a comedian?

I think the book "Surely you are joking Mr. Feynman" is a great read. Feynman led the group doing the calculations that solved the very difficult real time diffusion problems presented during creation of the atomic bomb. And did it all in a matter of months. His wife, Arlene (who was dying of tuberculosis), asked him why he cared what anyone thought.

She asked a very good question everyone faces. Everyone faces problems and if one still lives they can be said to have solved them. As the years go by one ends up sitting above a stack of them and they have an outlook. That outlook is called self-confidence.

That's really why we climb. It develops self-confidence faster. That being the case it becomes perplexing why it is climbers on web sites are so fixated on having to seem better or "always right."

Being better is an illusion as is being always right. Self-confidence is the ability to fix those cases where one happened not to be right. Self confidence also allows one to admit you are as imperfect as the other guy.

Lack of self confidence and immaturity was about all there was in RC years ago so I left about the time I posted. Then last week I discovered there was some real talent here.

Face it folks. You are beginning to get somewhere.

The bar is getting a little higher each day.

Reflecting on my pursuits, on occasion I have remarked that what draws me to participate in activities like climbing or spelunking isn't that I'm some kind of thrill seeker. It is the active and methodical repulsion of fear and the camaraderie of having done so with another.
