In tightrope, when moving the rope up off the ground in one foot increments, there is a height off the deck at which point your mind no longer wants to instinctively jump off in a "crisis" and instead switches to fighting for control. Every highball/free solo undoubtably has a similar threshold somewhere on it that varies from person to person.

As I've gotten older that jumping off height has decreased... I'm down to about 2 feet now!

Dingus, I hear you there...

The other 6 billion people who dont climb I assume would answer a resounding no, but to this group of exotrodinary people called climbers, it makes perfect sense and thats what matters.

YouŽd be surprised...

perhaps I will add to the list of people who consider soloing a good idea (other than climbers) any human who has ever done any kind of outdoor/ extreme sport, or is passionate about anything really. As for the rest, there secretly jealous and scared, afterall our vacations are their worst nightmares! (trango bumper sticker rip off)

Yeah, I guess that makes all of us dirtbag climbers the haves, and the yuppies in the big houses the have nots. Sounds good to me, couldnt agree more.

Don't bet the farm on that as there are more than a few ex-dirtbag, middle aged yuppies desparately trapped by jobs, mortgages, and/or marriages that are near the breaking point and they can send in a heart beat like it might be the last thing they ever do. Some do, most don't - but I never count them all the way out until I see an autopsy or a Jenny Craig contract.

I free climbed a 5.11b the other day. At its height its maybe 25 30 feet off the ground tops. I have some pads down below, so technically I doubt I would die if I fell, bet I would surely get hurt a little bit. Without the pads, I would die I figure. SO. My friend and I were trying to figure out if I soloed it or if it was just a really good high ball. We werent really sure exactly when a route is considered to be soloed or just a big boulder problem. So I am here to see what you guys think. 5 dollars is at stake so be truthfull. :)

Superman, why do you want to climb solo like all the other solo climber? just climb EVEREST naked without O2 and set a record and I bid $10 you will make it.
