Apropos the UK climbing site: It seems like there's a hierarchy of expected meanness that goes like beginner blogs < mountain project and other general sites < rc.com < b.com and the taco Seems like user climbing ability corresponds pretty well with little tolerance for idiocy, as well.

Hate to bring that *other* thread into this one, but you're implying that the average mp poster is less experienced than the average rc.commer. That's a pretty bold statement. I think there is one factor and one factor alone responsible for the different meanness levels: official moderation level. A site (or blog) with a strong site-sponsored moderation level filters out all the meanness, and counts on the moderators to keep things in line. A site with less institutional moderation, like the taco or rc.com, is primarily moderated by the forum users themselves. Mob rule. It's ugly at times, but it's equally effective. GO

I fail to see how posting pics of a guy with his Dick in a tail pipe qualifies as better things to do with your time. Contrary to the statement above, I dont think there's any correlation between posting and climbing ability. Sorry.

If this were my only option for climbing, I'm fairly certain I'd quit. The title is "red point," which it certainly ain't, and the caption is "sport climbing festival," which it also ain't. Hell, it's barely climbing at all.
